A very quick one...
Conjuration A shadow flickers on the wall, A torchflame burns the last of its fuel, A man stands nervously before the circle, Incanting over the still red pool, He finishes his spell, Stands breathlessly, waiting, And the small red pool, Begins to move. His spells have opened the way His lifesblood has given the energy, His words have chosen the summoned, But his charm cannot hold it. The torchlight burns down, The shadows swallow the last of the room, The man is not there, But he did not leave.

Oh hi! :D

This one has no emotion, it's all pretty words. Still, enjoy.
"Subdued" It rains, so slowly the droplets fall They wash out the tears in my eyes I let the water downpour wash over me Hoping that I too will be cleansed... And I, the hopeless dreamer Always strays off the right path Just because it seems pretty Strewn with roses, blood red Maybe if the rain is not enough I shall turn to the river It should provide solace For my troubled heart And even though I dive beneath the glassy surface And swim so hard, faster, faster... My breath coming short, I resurface Still feeling as lost as ever.... If the river doesn't satisfy me (And what ever will, little one?) I shall turn to the grey sea To give me strength to move on... The sea, I walk slowly towards it The waves crash on the sand Roaring silently, quiet defiance I walk as if in a dream.... The sister moon, reflection seen here Broken, ever broken, scattered pieces of light I cup my hands, to capture that forbidden light Could that bring me the peace I seek? The light fades, the cloud banks Cover the false pretender, the mirror Of the suns glory, his brilliance surrendered To the stars that shine above.... I continue into the salty barrier My breath coming short This is what I needed A respite from this tiring life.... Then something inside of me Cries out, it won't let me go (You can't do this! Don't leave!) I hesistate, dare I answer? And as an answer The salted water falls down my cheeks I sob, once more aware of my surroundings I can't do this, I can't give it all up I walk back slowly from her grip The mother sea whispers her farewell And I walk back to where I belong My place....what I have forgotten Last edited by BlackMageGirl!; 11-30-2004 at 07:25 PM. |

I wrote this piece with the purpose of making amends for my last poetic failure. This might seem kind of depressing, but despite that I still had fun writing it. I hope you enjoy it…
Edit: This might seem a bit jumbled because it has no stanzas, but bear with me... Forsaken Times They say that the only way to succeed on the road of life Is to learn from your past mistakes… But what if you got lost in the maze of your own shortcomings? What if you could not escape the grid of endless errors, The ever-growing matrix of your previous failures?... I search for answers in the dark caverns and chasms of my past, But find only the shadows of deep silence, Resounding throughout these night-filled recesses, a suffocating tide of velvet. My ears, starving and straining in turn in this soundlessly-choked atmosphere, Devour my footsteps like Ambrosia, but these insubstantial noises are not sufficient. Whispers of logic rebound, lacking feeling, substance, shape, Neither remorse nor joy exist in this dark corner of the mind. These halls are dead, the passages, endless, The shadowed rooms contain only echoes. I wander aimlessly from one deserted chamber to the next. But I will find no Minotaur here, for better or for worse, For nothing dwells in this place save the hard stone of truth: unbiased and cold, So as I journey onward and nowhere, I recall only the events, not the emotions, Only the situations, not the feelings, Only the external, never the internal, Where each path is as unlikely as the next… To rekindle my hope, I have only one thought to look to - The future:: bitter, joyous, wistful, dark, ominous, passionate; Fateful and fatal all at once. This is the far-off light at the end of the tunnel, Whose brilliance shines somewhere on the border between hope and despair… This is where insanity and logic become so different, so polarized, That they begin to leave the spectrum altogether, And emerge again like a dark phoenix from the ashes, as one and the same. The light in this logistical madness is akin to a tongue of flame: Both attainable, almost within my grasp, its presence nearly tangible, And yet so untouchable, like movement out of the corner of one’s eye, Seeming to laugh at my fruitless attempts at escape, and mock my vain hope, My only ball of thread in this labyrinth of time-scorned history . . .

Stranger in a strange land.

Two people, good friends,
Their friendship won't end, They both know each other, And the other one's lover. Both good friends, and nothing more, Both knew of the other's lore, Both knew that they should have stopped, Both did nothing, their guard dropped. It suddenly happened, there wasn't a test, Their tongues stopped moving, their lips doing the rest. A single spark emanates from this meeting, And the spark was there, even if only fleeting. A sudden regret, for lack of restraint, Now neither one's holy, no longer the saints. This meeting kept most secret now, The only question would be how?

I'm uncontainable
|
This poem is dedicated to two special people. They know who they are.
Sad memories, surfacing, growing inside, I said I was fine, unfortunately, I lied. This dark pit grew within, a black hole of sorrow, It pulled me in, I would see no tomorrow. As I fell, I looked up, saw a dim light, It grew brighter; a pair of hands was banishing the night. As I watched, the pair was joined by another, Both reaching for me, refusing to be smothered. In desperation, I reached out, cried out in pain, My voice was silenced by the crash of black rain. The dark seemed too strong, my saviors had lost, But the hands returned, they would save me at any cost. I remembered my promise, my solemn vow, "I will take on your role, someday, somehow." With renewed strength, I reached out to the hands, Grasped them, remembering his final command. "Live for others, no matter the cost, If hate consumes you, then all will be lost." With one final heave, I exited the hole, Turned to the two who had rescued my soul. One was a woman, a commander of time magic, One was a man, his life had been tragic. Both had taken the time to care for me, And I will return the favor, eventually.

Nice Poem, Cloud Strife. I liked it because it was simple, yet had alot of depth to it...here's a poem I came up with on a spur of the moment:
Edit: Darn, Technocrack, you were too fast for me. By the way, your poem's also very well-written... Phantasm As I sit here, by myself, My mind drifts to shadowed thoughts, Of creatures fatal to my health, That I should never have been taught. The twi-lit sky seems to darken, Stars' light weakens through my panes, To all small sounds I'm forced to harken, An endless cycle of frightened shame. The empty house, filled with naught, Seems to tax my nervous soul, The silence: echos what's been fought, The shade-filled doorway, a gaping hole. The creak of floorboards, in my mind, Becomes the foot-steps of the dead The muted rustle of broken blinds Takes strange forms within my head. And as I type these very words, A sillohuette against the light Appears like whispers, barely heard, To fill my soul with fear-wrought night. As I slowly turn my head, The shades of twilight leave my view, The spectral shape seems to've fled, And with it things I thought I knew. The creaking floorboards, the shadowed tasks, All hide what's already known: These apparations are just masks For the fact that I'm alone.

What do all of these empty words mean?
It's all just repetition A sad play, an audition Pitying, I type them down Quietly, devoid of sound No reason to need them from what I've seen. He thinks himself the victim, no one cares He feels slighted Practically short sighted He cannot see beyond himself What he has, his own wealth He wonders why no one else is there... Clinging, smothering, demanding more My shadow he follows Without me he's hollow How much more can I take? Still afraid, another mistake I promised not to close that door... It is not my charge, not my mission He should be moving forward A life goal to be working toward Keep going forth, keep moving on Self pity your life shouldn't be wasted upon The real things in life is what he is missin' |

Get over yourself
Father forgive me for what I do, Also I hope he forgives you too, Always walking around acting the fool, Pretending you are so cool, You spit your lyrics, aggrandizing you, Here’s some info for you to chew. I’m know you don’t want me here, I fill you with dread and fear, You need to clean out your ear, Who was the first one over here? Of us I was the first one here. And I am going no where Get over yourself, You are not worth my concern, Stay out of my life, Tell yourself what you need to, But the only one it hurts is you, Join the real, it won’t hurt to do,

America Today
God bless our country, home of the brave, We fight to protect our land of the free, While people try to fuck it up, and hurt people like you and me. But all that was Americas past, Back then, it was the golden years, Everyone prospired and contributed, and the citizens had no fears. Today, the media runs the country, along with movies, radio, and TV. Politicions lie everyday making promises, but they never reach me. (this was quick, and if it sucks, go ahead and say it) |

This was inspired by a four note phrase in Aaron Copland's "Appalachian Spring"
A simple phrase Four notes and two chords Describes true love As no romantic air could ever show Not the passion of star-crossed lovers No, not that lust and madness But the little things of love that are The knowing smiles and gleeming eyes. Anticipate each other’s every need To forgive eachother's every fault And know that eternity will be spent Not in her fervent arms But holding her hand in yours With eyes open to the world To face life’s challenges together Not a glorious prospect A simple vision, a humble wish But oh! So beautiful So beautiful So beautiful…
