I think the classes cover a range of color.
So, like, Sollux/mustard to Kanaya/jade is one class.
Karkat probably placed himself in the yellow/green part of the hemospectrum. He lives in the suburbs; too high class to be red/brown, too low class to be blue. Being anonymous is probably easier than sticking to a specific color and risk having incongruities that can't be explained away.
Plus, it was probably a point of pride for him to take the risks associated with straight out anonymity than to take the risks associated with lying all the time.

Even after I learned, grew up, and came to be on the right side of a lot of important issues, I was still angry, abrasive, and generally increased the amount of hate in the world, in pretty unacceptable ways.
