John couldn't have prevented his Dad's death. He couldn't have even gotten there in time to see him before he died. Vriska telling him to do something productive instead of "Go see your Dad even though he'll be dead by the time you get there anyways" wouldn't have really helped.

I am sincerely, sincerely hoping that this was a bold-faced lie on her part, for John's protection, and she's not going to be like "I did say you'd see him soon, I just didn't say in what condition you'd find him!" when John discovers the bodies and understandably freaks the fuck out.

Because the latter would basically be a horrible, horrible thing to say.

A blatant lie would be nice... though I'm not sure what would be worse. John seeing... this, or him never finding out what happened to his dad.

Well, when Jack first showed up before killing them, a friend and I had a discussion about this. Vriska already knew this was going to happen, considering she's contacting him from the future. So, rather then allow him to go and fight and get killed by Jack, she misled him for his protection. The words you think she'd say, I don't think understandably match what she meant. However, now that I think about it, it doesn't exactly mean they're permanently dead or that John will find him dead. In a sense, she could also possibly(but incredibly low) mean their dream forms or... probably slim to nil... God-tier. THAT or just finding them dead. This is just wishful thinking though. Who knows, maybe they'll pop up in the finale somehow if they don't come back said forms.

EDIT: I'm not entirely sure if some of what I said in the beginning is a reiteration of what Loyal already said, so I apologize.
