You folks make strong cases for it being either Fighter or Red Mage, but I'm going to have to side with it being RM here.
You see, no matter how much deeper he gets, I can't see Fighter saying that flying to Gurgu with BM on the windshield was "funny." He would never laugh as BM's misfortune--just, perhaps, ignore it if he got distracted (perhaps by the idea of a Luthor-Batman teamup). RM, on the other hand, would find BM's unique situation humorous. He is capable of becoming deeply philisophical, and his whole goal in the comic is to level up, increase his stats, and become God-like. I buy RM as the red-text'd stranger more than anyone else. |

However, it wouldn't work as well with RM. I mean, BM has stated he'd rather be talking to Fighter then RM. FIGHTER. And for all we know, Fighter could have thought that the fresh air was doing BM good when they left him on the windshield.

I like sacrificeing orphans but thats not what im posting for.
What I have to say is what if it is the darker side of Bm talking to his well less dark side? Honestly now think about it. He is having a bit of self revolation in the comic maybe. The next comic speaks of his emotional scars so just maybe he was rethinking this whole evil thing... nah... And if you think about the backgrounds this makes a little bit more since this way Panel A being theifs body Panel b being Redmages brain mass etc Then he is thinking of ther deaths well he is debateing on moralatiy of murder.

An interesting thought, walican, but it doesn't quite explain the Gurgu reference. I'm guessing Burkion's vision might be closest (based on what we've determined so far), though I doubt it's an end seen. More of a prelude to the end.

Reading the comic again, for the 80th time, I'm beginning to think that the red text actually sounds Thief-ish. Given his thoughts on, say, the randomness of kingly births, free will, and the free market, the red text is exactly what he'd say. He'd be the most likely to find BM's Gurgu situation funny, too.
I'd put my money on Thief, if it weren't for the text...color... ... ...Hold on. Thief's going to be turning into a RED Ninja in a few comics. Episode #300 shows his class-change will be into a Red-Clad Ninja. Could his text color also change to reflect his new outfit? |

It has been said that Fighter would stand alone against the rising tide of darkness and that he and only he would defeat it. Plus, you have to admit, if it was between anyother it wouldn't mean as much.
Of course, Brian could just be screwing with us and decide to make it White Mage. |

Actually, BM killed him twice. In the time span of about 10 minutes.
He also mortally wounded him once or twice, but he was healed or had a nap or something. |

Dosen't matter. I'm betting even when he sacrifeced Fighter, Fighter would have just gotten back up. 'Cause he's Fighter.

Okay, my theory...
The point of this conversation is that the game is ending. The Light Warriors have reached the end of their story and defeated chaos. What happens to them after the end of the game? Their world ends. In a bit of fourth-wall breaking, the victory of the Light Warriors has actually heralded the destruction of their world. Sitting on the edge of oblivion, two light warriors discuss how they got to this point. The orange box is obviously Black Mage simply because of the stuff it says. Its likely that the final battle against Chaos will, in some way, involve Black Mage getting back his hell powers, so that explains why he's seemingly talking in his Ruler of Hell form. As for the other box, Fighter just seems like too much of a stretch. No matter how much he evolves, I just can't see fighter having that long of a conversation without saying something idiotic. So the other box is Red Mage. Certain lines ("Are you trying to goad me?") seem VERY RM-ish to be, anyway. If this is true, it's would mean the series is headed for a pretty dark finale, but it makes sense to me. EDIT: As for the "why did you do it like that" bit, they're talking about what you see in the last panel, the Deathtrap flying with BM plastered to the front. In his final moments, Black Mage is looking back on that moment and realizing that "Heh, that was funny wasn't it?." So, he's confirming what he says in the last panel (at least the first bubble.) In fact, I think the whole point of this strip is to show, humorously, that even in the middle of whatever mind-bending catastrophe the future has in store for the Light Warriors, BM actually WILL look back on that moment and think it's hilarious. (It's a difficult joke to put into words, but it makes sense to me. It's like, they're in the middle of this climactic philosophical discussion, and then suddenly it's "Hey, remember that time we went to Gurgu? That WAS funny." It's just supposed to sound out of place.) Last edited by Rocketlex; 11-12-2005 at 02:46 PM. |
