Last mission in GTA:SA.
Like 20 times I run through killing everyone in that building and chasing after Tenpenny and my fat fuck brother falls off the back of a firetruck.

I find Star Ocean 3 to be still incredibly frustrating after all this time. Almost all end game bosses will murder you, especially Freya and Lenneth, if you mess up once. Not to mention the fact that "Uber" Fayt is expensive and hardly works in the hardest difficulties. 5000 defense doesn't mean crap when a boss's attack stats are, dare I say, over 9000? Not to mention the fact that you have to constantly spend millions to form the weapons to even fight the bosses effectively. Not frustrating, merely time consuming. But enough about this one game. I have a few others.
On another, Hector Hard Mode on Fire Emblem 7. Nuff' said. Anyways, I also find Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria a little frustrating. Mostly boiling down to the fact that getting the items you need is very annoying. Even more so if you want to get the magic 7777 HP + Solomon's Ring to get 100% drop rates. But the MOST frustrating part that you have to be the game and excess of 50 friggin' times to finally achieve the hardest difficulty. Not only that, but the enemy's stats are so god damn ludicrous it's nearly impossible. Oh then try getting the Angel Slayer then. Multiply the toughest enemy's stats, including insane bosses, stats by 10, on top of their all ready over the top stats, and you have the magic formula for utter hell. I wonder how people manage to do that sometimes without trying to commit suicide. But anyways, you guys talkin' about all these old games makes me wanna go play them all again. Damn, I need to go play them soon.

I found Star Ocean III frustrating in general. I spent hours running around this one village trying to figure out exactly which fuckwad I had to talk to so the plot would advance. It suffered from a problem that a lot of modern RPGs do in that it left me feeling like I was just trying to get from cutscene to cutscene. So basically, it was a Final Fantasy game, only it was also a Star Ocean, so when you actually got the plot to advance, you were rewarded with hideously unbalanced bosses (everything from Crosell on). And it was never a matter of strategy, beating them. It was always just that the game would set you up to be fifteen levels lower than you needed to be.
Has anyone ever actually enjoyed level building in a standard RPG? Don't answer that, MMORPG players. It's the most tedious task in the universe, and it's only rewarding in that it allows you to play your own video game that you already paid sixty dollars for. There is no excuse for modern RPGs to force that.

You gotta admit, Crosell was a ridiculously easy boss. I laughed on how fast he died. No strategy, and I was average level for the time. And also, if you are a low level, you should be using a strategy. Your choice of broken items, or a clever way to kill them. I remember one or two bosses who weren't immune to the freeze status. I do agree on finding those go damn ninja npcs. A nightmare in some cases.

Grinding for levels is filler, its what makes reviewers say "The single player lasts a solid 32 hours without side quests"

Edit: The game should not last 32 hours because I'm spending 30 hours *working.* It should last 32 hours because there is actually that much of a game there.

Very true. But, most games are getting a little better at this. I can recognize that most games are trying new things except just run and wait for random battles. Maybe I'm wrong though. Though I've never had to grind for 5 hours to beat a boss...

Star Ocean 3 has a frustrating post-game, yes. It's supposed to be insanely fucking hard. Like Enix tried to be NIS.
Also, I forgot: Radiata Stories. Getting beat by a flat dragon is bad. Getting beat by a flat dragon because your healer doesn't heal when necessary is worse. The worst thing, though? Fighting some characters. You go attack them but it's impossible to hit! They dodge! No matter what. Seriously, you're already slashing at something and they're trapped against a wall...But they still do a back jumping motion and they're fine. They can also throw volty blasts ( read: specials ) at you whenever they feel like. And, seriously, those of you who play Defenders of the Ancients ( DotA ) against AI players know why I'm saying this. Warcraft III has the computer be a cheating bastard that identifies illusions, invisible enemies, knows your health even when they can't actually see you and have perfect micromanagement skills. This becomes stupid in DotA because they're perfect at killing their allies so that you don't get gold for killing them, while they're still dealing the last hit to YOUR allies to get their gold. It's even worse with some characters that target multiple enemies because they target exactly the ones they need to, while you simply aim at one and hit the others at random. ( This happens when you have split shot: You aim one arrow, but three fly off. The other two hit a random nearby enemy, but not for the PC... ) And seriously, who the fuck made the racing missions in GTA:VC and GTA:SA? Not to mention that one GTA:SA mission where you're supposed to drive a truck and not damage it. The RC missions everyone knows how frustrating they are, they need no further mention. AND ALSO: Yu-Gi-Oh. The game jumps up in difficulty to the point where it's pointless to fight new guys because they have incredibly powerful combinations...While you just got your first trap card.
