Wee Lets argue with each other.

And just to clarify, I'm a stickler, I'm not a fan of re-releases because I am not a fan of retranslations. (Maybe if they totally revamped the game (new graphics, etc) it would be okay, maybe) It's not just Frog, but everyone. Especially when the current translation worked before. When they someday remake FF7, I can see them fixing the typos, or maybe dialogue that was confusing, but when it worked before, I just don't know why they would bother to change what they already established. Honestly, I personally don't get what is so orgasm-tastic about having a game a third time anyway. TRUTH: I'm just in denial because I don't have a DS. )= But if it upsets other people and ruins their excitement, then I shall stop complaining about it. Rather, YAY CHRONO TRIGGER IS GOING TO BE AWESOME YEAH.

Gotta agree with CelesJessa on this one, criticizing changing Frog's speech isn't the same as saying Chrono Trigger will be an atrocity of a game.
In fact, Chrono Trigger DS will probably kick all kinds of ass, just not as much so as the original, because nothing's going to compare to the experience of the SNES original, and also Frog's dialogue was better with his "thous." As someone in the "I don't own a DS" crowd, I can list plenty of reasons why I wish I'd own a DS but oddly enough Chrono Trigger DS isn't high up there. It's not because the game won't be awesome (it will, essentially by default) but why bother paying so much money to own a game I've already beaten? (Many times!) There are plenty of great games I need to purchase for the DS once I get one that I've never even played yet. But hey, if you can afford it? Go for it. Just keep a tally of the dialogue in the new version, as I personally suspect you're find at least a few instances where you'll miss the older translation.

Square does this kind of stuff all the time, especially since Woosley left them, and all of our complaints are justified since we've actually seen the changes. Usually quoting nay-sayers as true fans is better spent on times like, oh, let's say the Transformers movie, when every bit of new information that wasn't the 1986 cartoon movie turned into a new kernel of information of why it would be the worst movie ever. Basically; this isn't the same as ruined FOREVER.

Well, GEEZ. My attempt at quoting something sarcastically didn't work. I didn't even get the quote right and it caused people to get mad. Damnit.
But, honestly, you people complained you weren't getting the Chrono Forever fan project thing when it closed because Square would never be making anything Chrono franchise related anymore, ever. So now there's a remake with more things and you people have to be nitpicky because some of the characters had their dialogue changed? And, apparently, it'll be closer to what it was supposed to be in the original, Japanese version? Right, because that's not what you had when you played it before. So, what, there'll be a fan project for the remake to have the exact same dialogue as the SNES version had? |

It's really not that big of a deal, and for the sake of the thread, we should probably never mention it again.

Just because something is closer to the actual Japanese dialogue, doesn't make it better. We don't just like it because Frog talked all Middle-English style. But his way of talking was endearing, and it always stuck out in your mind. So, they're taking out his era specific diction, in a game about time travel, without any justification other than it's closer to the original Japanese text, when his way of talking was better in the SNES version.
Sorry, but if I was playing Chrono Trigger, and saw, "Chrono-san, look out! Akuma!" I would personally bludgeon the translator to death with a 360 power supply.

Personally, it always bothered me that Frog was the only person in his era to talk like that, and that in flashbacks he didn't use the middle english diction either until after his transformation. Of course, I didn't play it until I was 19 or so.

Of course, I always named Frog "Glenn" so he was kind of off-center anyway, being all "Mine name is Glenn!" quite awhile after you met him. Uh yeah, thanks Glenn, we know.
