I'm actually glad you didn't. I think the comic is better with frequent updates. I couldn't imagine waiting a week between pages, even if they are in color.

That was a major factor in my decision. I really liked the color, but I decided that being able to produce 3-4 pages per week and consistently update the site with two pages a week was better than being able to only produce 2 pages per week and chance missing updates.

I could probably have rushed the coloring job and done 3 pages per week, but I didn't want them to come off looking half-assed and/or unfinished.

And when I also take into account I'm writing it...it's just too much work!

That color panel actually looks REALLY good, but yeah, if it's too much work it's too much work.

I like the way it turned out too, and it encourages me to make more colored pictures just on the side.

Maybe that can be something I start doing every few weeks.

If I ever did do a colored comic on my own I'd probably simplify the art a bit so I could get away with a quicker-to-do coloring style. Maybe something in the style of Oglaf?

(I don't know if I would write pages in the style of Oglaf. For one thing, I doubt Brian would post them!)

My drawing for The Dreadful is relatively complex, and so I can't color it like I do Atomic Robo (well, I could, but I don't think it would look very good). Many of the Robo pages are done in a simplified art style, and that lets me color them a bit quicker because in their case, less is more. In fact, one of the tricky things about coloring Robo is avoiding doing TOO much. Though, once I figure out what is "just enough" the pages can be colored pretty fast. The issue with The Dreadful is that "just enough" still takes a lot of time. Too much time for me!

Note: Some people feel a nicer way of saying "simplified" is "economical". I use "simplified" because I don't consider it to be an insult either way. :P I mean, whatever works, right?

Dreadful My favourite strip

The story has really got me, can't wait to see how it works out.

On the b/w vs colour thing, I think the whole art direction is brilliant. I assumed the line drawing style (I wouldn't know the correct term) was always the plan. It is very effective and it never occurred to me that it was at least partially because of time constraints etc. Frequent updates are excellent as the story and characters are so strong.

Best strip on teh internetz (for me!)
