I knew this one girl back in my highschool days that used to do three copies of her homework. She would do her homework than recopy it and check it. Then she would make a final copy printed as neat as she could. She pulled high 90s in nearly every class. Me, being the guy I am when I did my homework at all, did one crappy looking copy and called it good. I used to sit in class not take notes, sometimes sleep, and get 90s to 100s on all the tests. Of course my grades rarely went above 80 because of my horrible work ethic. Of course I can never know but perhasp if I had been female my work ethic would have been different. Of course there are many males that have perfectly good work ethics and plenty of females that don't. It just seems women are more likely to have perfectionist attitude. Whats really strange is that if I see a picture or something hanging of center on a wall I have to fix it; but my room looks like a train wreck. So it would seem I'm guilty of having some transgender traits.

I'll just write some stuff here about stereotypical gender roles and their origins, at least my opinions on such things.

To start with I agree completely with reality deviant on the reality of it nowadays. All human beings possess the capability for intelectual thought, and thusly are fit to perform any role in society. The problem we run into are social norms, which state what a woman and man should be. Perhaps not in a pamphlet or text manual, but in the minds of every person around the world. They are at the least a nagging feeling in the back of your mind, and at the worst the basis of your interaction with persons of the opposite sex. The question is, where do they come from? Most stereotypes have some truth to them, otherwise they wouldn't be propagated. This is not to say that they are completely true or that their inherent facts justify their injustice. The origins of sexual discrimination lie in the nature of the human animal, the basic programming that every person starts life with. Males and females are designed for distinct roles in the continued existence of the species. We are hard wired for a certain function in basic human society, and with this subconscious baseline comes certain natural reactions and instincts. If you step back from being a human for a second, you realize that practically everything we do is for the purpose of basic survival and dominance of the human species. We all desire security and comfort, the same as any animal. Some of us would like to think we are a creature unto ourselves, but thats just fooling yourself. We are still tied by the chains of instinct to this ecosystem. We are, however, the closest animals to breaking those chains and transcending base animal reactions, such that we no longer have to follow many of our internal urges. In fact if we did we would probably be deemed insane, or extremely antisocial to say the least. All important activities of the most advanced human civilizations today can be performed by anyone, as they are intelectual in nature and require no special physical abilities. Men and women may think slightly differently on instinctual levels, but those instincts can be overridden by logic if so desired. So I say that gender stereotypes are irrelevent to modern society, or at least they should be. Nobody needs to go killing mastodons and fighting other tribes daily for survival. No one needs to watch the cubs and make sure they are not eaten by a random predator. Someone is going to come up with modern day examples of such things, but when you really think about it their examples will be incorrect. No stimulus external to humanity can affect humanity stronger than internal forces. Not acts of god, wild animals, nothing but man himself can upsets mans environment to the point of destruction. Every cataclysmic occurence can be countered by technology and reproduction, except for systematic destruction perpetrated on humans by humans. My whole point to this is that gender stereotypes are a relic from the ancient past that is hanging on with such tenacity because they are an ingrained part of our being, and we naturally feel comfortable with them. If we can look past our own animal comforts and instincts however, the world would be a better place for everyone.

ha ha, I write an awful lot don't I?

I am the exact same as you in this case. It isn't really a transgender trait, the only transgender trait would be if you had two sets of sex organs.

Gender traits are just stereotypes. We see one woman do it, we see if there's a pattern. If a lot of women do it, they all do. However, if we see a lot of people in an ethnic group doing it, they all do. There is something in the human brain that makes us all this way. This makes it so racism, sexism, and the like will never fully go away unless we were to change the way the human brain works.

Anyway, I have noticed that a lot of women tend to get extremely expensice stuff, when men will just pick crap off of the road, fix it up a bit, and do it. Also, a lot of women talk to their animals strangely. Like they have conversations with them. I know my mom always asks the family pets questions. It gets really annoying.

About the whole insult thing. My male friends and I enjoy insulting eachother. When we have a good burn*, the other will make a comeback, and this will continue until one can't think of anything to say. Ergo, the other person has "won." The "winner" is then congratulated on his astounding wit, and there are no hard feelings. Now, I will be somewhere with my female friends, and one of them will say something. I will make a burn, and will suddenly be barraged with several slaps to the face and knees to the groinular (to be prononced groin-you-lair) area. I guess this is kinda a difference in how girls take things.

*For those of you not familiar with a "burn," it is when someone will say something casual, and another will turn what they said into an insult. This is the measure of wit in my group. For example, here's one I had a while ago:

I have a friend who recently had an odd makeout spree and made out with quite a few of my female friends. The day after, we were all in Starbucks (yes, I hang out in Starbucks) and he said, "I wonder if the water here is free." I promptly replied with, "Free like your face!" I'm sorry, but that wasn't my best, and right now I fail to come up with any others.

A couple of exceptions, you know, just to throw a wrench in the works.

Men are changing. No longer do we spend no time in the bathroom. Metrosexuals are popping up everywhere, and they care more about their appearance than most women. I myself am not a metrosexual, but I spend more time on my hair than most girls I know (I've got long curls. It takes a long time to wash)

But most of that other stuff is true. Except for this:

You obviously haven't met me.

It takes me no time to do my hair. Why? I don't have any non-facial hair to do! :p No, I'm just kidding. I just don't give a damn about my hair.

Plus, being someone who always watches That 70's Show, I'm already familiar with what a burn is.

metrosexuals, I think I've heard that term before, I think I fall into that category somewhere, I'm always fussing over my appearance and obsessively changing clothes until I find the "right" outfit for whatever I plan to do that day. I buy way too much clothes, and sometimes I only wear something once before I throw it away, a very vain man he he. My friends always give me shit about it, but I all I have to do is comment on their cartoon like characteristic of wearing the same shirt for three days in a row and owning only 3 outfits that look remarkably similar. I don't take a lot of time to do my hair, but thats because I like the whole disheveled haphazard look. I coordinate my soap, aftershave, deodorant and cologne as well.

Good for you, but not everyone watches that show, though they should.
