Man, all the buildup of the first two games and what I hear about the third one sorely disappoints me. I'm sure people will know what I'm saying when I say, "There is absolutely no way in the medium of video games that you can give the illusion of choice."

Well I don't have near enough time to beat ME2 with a good track record (Normandy upgrades, loyalty, etc) so I just reloaded my playthrough from 2010 and am running through all the DLC.
edit: just finished all the DLC. Complete Paragon playthrough done (actually, my Paragon bar maxed out at like hour 30, so I have a decent chunk of Renegade too). Had all upgrades, no casualties, level 30. Ready for ME3! DLC review: Firewalker: Meh. Overlord: Enjoyed. Arrival: It wasn't unpleasant to play, but the consistency of the writing seemed...eennnnh. Lair of the Shadow Broker: A++ would play again, best DLC easy. Last edited by Azisien; 03-04-2012 at 11:39 PM. |

I agree with Azisien: Overlord and Shadow Broker were by far the best DLC offerings for ME2. I wouldn't even pay for Firewalker unless you're a dedicated completionist, and depending on the variables in how ME3 opens, Arrival may not be worth the money either.
Kasumi's DLC was pretty good too, and you get a new squadmate out of it. I prefer Zaeed as a DLC character so if your game didn't come with the Zaeed DLC, be sure to get that. Also: Gotta admit, Bioware's done an aces job with today's social media blitzkrieg. The fake twitter shit has been fun to read.

Overlord wasn't that good, either.
Edit: I mean it was fun to play but the whole "THE AUTISTIC KID CAN TALK TO THE GETH" and then TERRIBLENESS was just urgh. Good vehicle sections, though, and well designed fights if I remember right. Shadow Broker and MAYBE Arrival are the only two 'non-character' DLCs I'd recommend to anyone. Edit 2: And I wouldn't recommend Arrival because it was good (as it wasn't good at all), but just because it's a lead in to ME3. Which according to the demo I guess starts with Shepard in prison (assuming that's the beginning or near to it) which is directly related to the events in Arrival.

Overlord had solid gameplay sequences; Arrival had comparatively poor gameplay sequences. Even if Arrival's a lead-in, I wouldn't really recommend it as I highly doubt ME3's going to penalize people who didn't play Arrival in any substantive way.
And yeah, Overlord's ending twist wasn't well implemented, but the story up until then -- and throughout like 80% of the experience -- was phenomenal; there was a great creepy atmosphere that just permeated throughout it all back when you actually like, assumed you were at the mercy of a really creepy AI.

And I agree with everything you said about Overlord, too. Like, I enjoyed playing it as well, but the ending twist left a bad taste in my mouth over the whole experience so it'd be a pretty weak recommend.

My guess it will be a solid experience, with fantastic one liners, and an over all story that is neither great nor horrible with potentially horrible bits, and a rather solid gameplay experience aside from shitty walking mechanics.
I probably won't get it for a bit, though. 'Cause I poor.

I will concede that I've never been this genuinely excited to play a game that I'm intellectually convinced will be terrible before
It's like my brain and my heart are at odds Or maybe another way to put it is that I'm so invested in this franchise that I'm compelled to see the nightmare that may have become of it

So like when I played Duke Nukem Forever? Except there's no way ME3 will ever be that bad.
