It was probably just a stylistic thing. Rose ain't hopping around chatroom timelines like the trolls, and this clearly occurred after Jack killed Mom and Dad.

I think I see where you're coming from here. But given that she's not glowing at all on the next page. Also since John wasn't god tier yet, his Dad couldn't be dead yet...(at least from what we've seen there's nothing to make us believe that was the case since Jack was sniffing around and the breeze was keeping John's location hidden from Jack) I think it's safe to assume the conversation was per-grimdark. As to what exactly happened to Rose, that's what I'm interested in finding out.

No, when she was talking to John back then, John wasn't God tier, which meant Dad and Mom weren't dead (Jade was watching them have a tea party after John got God tier and started flying a car), so Rose couldn't have been Grimdark yet.

Remember when Doc Scratch was talking about how Rose's powers weren't from the wands, but from the gods' influence? And how she could possibly do magic even without the wands, because the black magic was inside her all along?

Dreamselves reflect the real self physically, like if you stab the real self, the dreamself will get stabbed too. It's not much of a stretch that it reflects more fundamental truths as well.

Her dreamself probably glowed black ever since she made the wands and that served as the arbitrary trigger for her magic powers.

Even after I learned, grew up, and came to be on the right side of a lot of important issues, I was still angry, abrasive, and generally increased the amount of hate in the world, in pretty unacceptable ways.
