and this is not a battle to the death, but who is the better Ninja.

As the old kung-fu teacher dude in that one episode of BTAS explained, Batman isn't really a ninja, so he's out.

Doctor McNinja's awesome but his awesomeness extends from his dual nature as ninja and doctor. As a ninja well, we have it from no less authoritative a source than himself in the middle of a drug-induced hallucination that he is, in fact, a "Damn good ninja."

I have to give it to Ryu just on the grounds of threat level. I mean an average day for Ryu seems to involve defeating a demon spirit, an Elder God, and a power-mad space emperor older than Time itself. As impressive as say, beating up a dozen muggers, or punching a velociraptor in the face may be, I don't think they quite measure up.

And so, you want a god-mode Link? He drinks some Romani Milk, throws up Naryu's love, and BAM, impervious indefinately. And then he can get freaky with Din's Fire all he wants. Cloud's just going to have to take the heat.

But I guess if you want a comparison with cutscene Cloud, I propose a more worthy opponent. Cutscene Solid Snake from Twin Snakes.

Edit: Shoot, I can't find the ones I want to show, namely, jumping off of a missle, or the ending of the fight with Ocelot where he does some rediculous stuff with the ninja.

In addition to what Twiddy said, I assume you're talking about Aeris.

I suggest you read the manual: Phoenix Downs and Life spells restore a KOed character, which can also be healed by staying at an inn. Aeris wasn't knocked out. She was run through and dead. A phoenix down or life spell wouldn't have done a damn thing for her anymore than a nap would.

And I really doubt that Din's fire is really going to do much to him. Note that in the beginning of AC, Cloud gets shot in the face by a gun. It breaks his sunglasses and annoys him. Further, Romani Milk eventually wears out.

Also, Solid Snake isn't anywhere near Cloud levels of omnipotentry. He loses just as bad as Link.

I was actually about to post this, pointing out the whole KO thing, which means knocked out and not dead. However before I did I actually decided to check FF7's manual. And the status that you obtain by reaching 0 HP is, in fact, called being dead.

I just wanted to share this "son of a bitch" moment.

Also, the main problem here is not that Link isn't awesome, because by all means he should win. The problem is that RPG endgame characters as a collective, and more specifically FF characters, are just stupid, stupid broken at top tier play.

I'm not talking about Aeris, I'm talking about in general. There's the Cloud you control and the Cloud that goes apeshit ballistic to show off for cutscenes.

And you don't flinch with Naryu's love on.

I'll admit Cloud is pretty much a boss battle for Link while Link is more of an annoying random encounter, but the problem is dues ex machina is on Link's side in this case.

Also, it's not exactly flinching. More like just being knocked back by a powerful force(which FF characters have a lot of). Which is why I said it was kind of like flinchlocking, and didn't call it flinching until this post. >>
