So some PSX-era Aeris-to-Aerith jerk-job of a translation "suggests" a totally open-ended and utterly speculative on the characters' part explanation. Aside from once again proving that Ted Woolsey wins the lifetime award from saving Square from itself, that still leaves you with how a planet is going around creating time portals, which is still a million times better as sequel fuel than "Lavos turns into magic dragons, lol."

You can't reasonably cite KH as some kind of example of Square making some artistically minded leap into the unknown; that game was like the most mercenary cash-grab of a licensing orgy in videogame history. That it was also good is sort of beside the point and, to this day, utterly beyond my ability to comprehend. I promise you, some pledge to be more commercially focused isn't going to stop anybody at Square from making a game out of a stable of vastly popular licensed properties all market-tested to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars in prior revenues and additionally chock full of the company's own fan-favorite, high-profit characters.

What is the line, and which version is it? I don't recall any concrete explanation of the Entity being in the PSX version, so that just leaves ROMhacks, which aren't exactly credible.

All I see is "well it might be something bigger, but who knows." That can support basically anything you want it to.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a good line of speculation, but then, I'd say the same if you said it might be God, or Gaspar, or that Robo is crazy from four hundred years without maintenance, or any number of other things. Julford Hajime said that a direct translation gives a definitive statement (so none of what I'm saying really applies to you). That version is specifically *NOT* definitive. Actually, Spekkio would fit the bill pretty nicely too...

Anyway, this is all a bit off topic, so I won't pursue the matter any further.

Just saying, but whenever you're referring to Chrono Cross you usually end up saying, "But the music during that scene was great."

Chrono Trigger may have been great but Yatsunori Mitsuda got access to some MP3 files and made some magic with CC.

But I call for a moratorium on Chrono Cross discussion as everyone pretty much agrees it would have been great if it wasn't Chrono Trigger: The Desperate Attempt To Resolve The Last Game.
