It's not hard.
I'm not a big fan of it though. Ah, here's a moment from me, from Legend of the Five Rings, though. Our party was made up of some poor sods that got stuck going beyond the wall into the shadowlands to hunt down a crab lord. The shadowlands are basically where everything bad is, ever, even the AIR is tainted, and can turn you into a horrible evil monster. Anyway, we head out there, and I'm playing an Iaijutsu master, when we come upon some trees. Living trees that bleed acid and want to beat us to death. They grab a member of our team, and I decide my normal sword would cause acid blood to go everywhere and would be a bad idea. So I draw my boken. I then proceed to roll enough damage to cut down the tree. I drew a wooden sword, swung it through a branch of a living tree, and it continued on straight through the trunk. ...I then took damage from acid blood on my arm, as I raised it to protect my face.

I once was DM for a very clever wizard/master transmografest. He got so good that I decided to have him take on a demon prince, Fraz-Urb-Lu. At the beginning of combat, he shape-changes into a beholder and hits the demon prince with a stasis eye-beam. Fraz does not make that the fort save so the wizard effectively stops him in his tracks. He proceeds to transport his prize to his underground laboratory, and he still has a demon prince hanging on his wall. As you can imagine I had to work very hard to come up with situations that could actually challenge this individual.

I have successfully spread rumors of a super weapon capable of defeating an army on the "Isle." Since my army is pretty much ass-whupping their resistance I am hoping to bait them into going for it.
Basically, the rumor said the item of power is held inside a pillar of magic. We'll see if they bite.

Well, my Majoras mask game has gone surprisingly well. Currently my players are rolling Moblin barabarian, Zora sorcerer, deku scrub rogue, Human Paladin, and Human Cleric of Din (Yeah, I statted out domains and stuff for the 3 goddesses. Din is the more combat focussed of the 3)
Currently, the party has gone through the Swamp dungeon, found out about the moon falling, and have confronted the skull kid (with only their own powers). after giving them a speach about how the mask makes him godlike, the rogue tried to steal it and was killed in the ensuing counter attack*. The rest of the party ran away and are now headed to the snowhead temple. they have 6 of the ten days I gave them, and it will take at least 2 to clear this temple, so lets see how they do it. *That player didnt show up to the most recent session. I think he's bitter.

Currently, my plan for bringing in the Alchemical Exalted is that the Netherese nabbed Vhaeraun when he was near death, and are bit-by-bit, carving off his essence and binding it to their creations to make Alchemicals. But shh, my players don't know about that yet. I've brought in some elements from an old D&D campaign I ran, where the players were manipulated into slaying our Tiamat-equivalent (who had ten heads due to taking over Bahamut-equivalent's domain) by her firstborn son, Carthage the Red, who tried to usurp her spot in the pantheon, but was slain by the same party. So now that party was a solar circle, with the dawn caste being one of the main rulers who has emerged in the last hundred years. His throne is built into the skull of Carthage.

The 3.5 edition (the latest edition is 4th) is pretty much entirely free online:
http://www.d20srd.org/ though some of the monsters and things aren't in there and it not as easy to read as a nice book with lots of pictures. And doesn't have all the new players sections like the books. There is a whole fuckton of different expansions that most people use. 4th ed is easier to get into- especially as there aren't lots of expansions to worry about- but you'll have to buy the books. If you don't have a group there are plenty of online groups- I'm sure we could set up another one for the forum- but they'll generally require you to know the rules unless you have a DM who happy to walk you through. |
