There is a copy of Kat Kong currently on my shelf, between a book on Primates and the Keith Baines rendition of Le Morte D'Arthur.

Okay, the first episode was bearable and even a bit funny. The second episode has exceeded stupidity critical mass. The stupid levels are off the charts. They actually used the elements of Kindness, Laughter, Generosity, Loyalty, and Honesty to summon Captain ~~Planet~~ Magic/Friendship. DO NOT WANT.

Generally speaking, this is why I tend to recommend newcomers not start with the Pilot episodes.

More specifically, the second half of the Pilot (Episode 2) is widely regarded as the worst in the series so far.

(Note that I actually personally disagree with this assessment and Episode 2 really didn't bother me as much with its corniness, I'm just reciting the general Brony positions on the episodes.)

But no, I'm pretty sure I'd recommend any newcomer start with an episode like Dragonshy, or possibly Swarm of the Century. Maybe even A Dog and Pony Show. (Those three are my favorite episodes that actually involve all the main cast.)

But if you give up after Pilot Part 2 just because Hasbro forced the writers to include some corniness to appeal to the target demographic, you're missin' out, man. You are missing out.
