Now if only I could get that on 2560 x 1440 resolution. The curse of having a non-standard resolution.

I'll guiltily admit that I had never actually read The Dreadful before. I kind of figured the title had something to do with the characters at first rather than that nifty little thing that Kit has. So, I powered through it last night and this morning and now I'm at the end.

Behind the scenes!

Some of these are pretty dumb, but I don't linger on them while sketching. I just keep going till I find a look that hits me. That's why when I arrived at the last one I stopped because I knew that's what I wanted.

It took awhile for me to come up with something I liked. I didn't want her to look like an obvious ninja, because an obvious ninja isn't doing a very good job of being a ninja. But I didn't feel she would go full-out Western either, so I tried to combine a ninja outfit with a Western outfit.

Someone said she sorta reminded them of Mitarashi Anko from Naruto, and I can see that in her. I used to be a fan of Naruto, and I liked Anko a lot. Umami's shoes are Naruto inspired, for sure.

She's also is a reference to Ayane from Dead or Alive, though I'll get into that later. Maybe. If anyone here is curious.

Dude. She's more than a reference. To my eyes her whole look (coat aside) is kinda cribbed from Ayane.
