Hell there were enemies in FF7 with guns, they do like 20hp worth of damage when your guys are still pretty low-level.

Everyone knows guns in RPGs use nerf bullets. If I had the energy to go looking for the Adventurers comic that shows this, I would prove it.

The thing about saying things like this is that Cloud can get his ass killed by Muggers and shit pretty easily near the beginning. He gets shot for 20hp, and then punched in the face by some random mugger mook for like 100.

...And if you're dying to seven mooks with scythes near the end of any random DMC game, you just need to learn to play better.

I mean I'm just saying, show me at any point in the course of DMC gameplay where Dante does anything like getting crucified, cut apart and impaled and doesn't like, lose a life or get a game-over. Most of the stuff Cloud does in a cutscene has some kind of plausible game-engine analogue but the 'get impaled/disemboweld/dismembered endlessly and not die' is something cutscene Dante does that in-game Dante doesn't. Or I mean, maybe he does? I mean I never beat DMC3 so I guess there could be a point in the course of gameplay where a monster cuts Dante in half or whatever and he takes no damage from the event.

DMCs mooks are probably equivalent to end dungeon random encounters, as that Dante doesn't rise in power as much from start to finish as Cloud does. He pretty much starts out kicking ass and taking names to a ridiculous degree.

End of DMC 1, he's hit by meteors, impaled by lasers, hit by dragons made entirely out of lava, hit by lava balls, hit by blasts of pure demonic energy from a being capable of destroying the planet, fights INSIDE Lava, and all of this outside of Devil Trigger without dying. But DMC3 mostly focused on Dante vrs Vergil, as opposed to Dante vrs Giant shit--so most of his in game surviving shit that should have killed him is him surviving Vergil's attacks, which is only impressive if you know that Vergil is capable of cutting giant demons apart, slaying them in under a second.

DMC4--He's crushed multiple times by a giant statue the size of a large building with the power of a god, shot by beams of pure energy capable of destroying hunks of cement many many times larger than him, etc. etc. without dying. He is also chewed up, and stomped on by a frog the size of a small building, burned multiple times by flames capable of instantly reducing buildings to smoldering ash... Do I really need to list every boss fight?

I'm not quite sure how you're even questioning this.

Cloud mopes, though. That lowers Cloud's badass level. He's less of a badass and more of a "tortured hero." That's less cool. And he's not nearly as hot as Dant-- I mean, awesome as Dante. Yeah. I totally meant to say awesome.
Although to be fair, Dante DID have the horrible "LIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!!!" cutscene and some seriously bad voice acting in the DMC games, which lowers his awesomeness levels somewhat. And some painfully corny cutscenes. All the "woo-hoo"-ing in 3.... *shudder*
