Yes, what they said. To summarise, Hawk, all you'll get is a quick flash of flame (and apparently some steam). This would be ineffective against the magmagators.

And a little clarification for you Phil - the magmagators only have that smouldering coal look for aesthetics. They're safe to touch, if on the hot side. Uh, assuming they're not caked in magma, of course.

Everyone on the ground, you can safely assume there's magmagators coming after you. Why do I get the feeling Phil's couch fort will end up being amazingly popular?

Anything I should know about the lava? Any special properties and whatnot just in case I take a dive into it? (Though avoiding it at all costs......Pain in the ass to get it all off before it hardens.)

It's lava. The pools of fire vary in consistency a bit - some have the really sludgy sort while others have it very liquid. There's some tunnels under the surface, making them more interconnected. There's the occaisonal pool of something different, like oil, but these don't really connect to the lava pools.

No, not of steam. one sec, I'll see if I can find some other info on the science behind it. (isn't just going to confirm it with Sith)

Superhot material + Liquid or dirt = Boom. the hot material explodes too, normally.

But like I said, the steam effect was cooler anyway and I like getting stabbed and brutalized so I don't mind. It would have been a quick and easy victory and a totally exploitable weakness.

Er, I generally find it's best not to look at physics too closely in this sort of thing. We have people jumping over buildings, chucking cars and casting spells after all.

I more pull out the physics card if there's something very questionable going on with someone using real physics.

Also, er, this seems to have been unclear but the Caryatid's serpent portion isn't quite lava. It's hot, but you could still hit it without, say, your weapons melting or your fist bursting into flames. Although she can probably raise her body temperature if she wants to. Just like how lava in general is less dangerous than normal in this sort of thing. Technically we should be dead just from being this close to it.

I'd wanted to say something about the Caryatid using a flame attack on the water, helping create steam, but it didn't flow too well.

Next: It's a bit easier to get a hold when said snake has arms and also abrupt variations in thickness along the length of its body: shoulders, hips, neck, etc.
