"Ah, yes," Pedro stated to Phil after swallowing a bite of hash browns, "I assure you that this is indeed Gaia. You see, during the previous adventure of the NPF group, Pyros and I managed an infiltration of Gaia Online and forced a hostile takeover of the community at large. The NPF/Gaia War subsequently brought to an end, I had the whole place torn down and converted into a massive parking lot for the Denny's franchise across the street, which I also own, of course."

"So what is this all about then?" Arhra asked as POS shot a quick wink to Rei, who was making her way to the little gynoid's room after hugging, well, everybody.

"Well, we've been tracking your progress through a variety of means, orbital satellite positioning systems along with the ocular and auditory implants in Mr. Hobo here, and have deduced that your next destination is most likely the Shadow Temple. My people have taken the liberty of doing some recon on the place for you and I thought I'd brief you personally. To be honest, I had a meeting with Rupert Murdoch that I wanted to blow off. You know assertion of dominance and all that..."

The conversation was interrupted by the approaching Flare. "I think we need to talk POS."

"Oh? My dear, you have my undivided attention," Pedro smiled, wishing that Rei hadn't already left the room.

"Why did Rei try to kill me?" I asked, arms crossed over my shoulders.

"Pshh..." Arhra interrupted, pausing in the consumption of her choice of bacon, "It's not like people here have never tried to kill each other before. Quit acting like you're so special." She couldn't remember what Flare was talking about. "I could be trying to kill you right now for all you know." Arhra went on. She raised her eyebrows to let the point sink in and then popped another morsel of bacon into her mouth.

No attempts on Flare's life were immediately forthcoming. "I could be doing it subtly." Arhra mumbled around the mouthful of food. Getting back on to the main topic would happen surely enough, but Arhra felt she'd enjoy the detour while it lasted.

"Except that I don't remember Rei having actually attempted to kill you at any point," Pedro shrugged, "Granted, she is programmed to eliminate you on sight for defeating me in the previous NPF Arena Tournament, but she was given an overriding command to assist and protect everyone in your party, including you..."

I just looked at POS in disbelief. "That's all? Rather pathetic reason if you ask me. Could've just come back during the next one and defeat me then. Besides, the prize wasn't worth the headache. Who wants a copy of Krylo's book on fashion anyway?" I said with a shrug.

"Perhaps," Pedro shrugged in return, taking a moment to swallow a bite of scrambled eggs, "But what sort of fun is that? Vengeance, after all, is a dish best served by a superpowered android."

"As fascinating as we find your constant bickering (save for when you're saving each other's lives at which point there are hints of sexual tension)..." Arhra said, interrupting Pedro and Flare. Yes, she went there. "We have a world to save and/or seriously endanger." Having finished her breakfast, she was now eager to get on the move again.

She treated everyone to a brilliant, brittle smile. It was unnerving. "So if you'd be so kind as to give us that information about the Shadow Temple Mr Pedro O'Sullivan, we can get on with attacking the darkness." Arhra finished
