Vit stepped over to Jal, and began talking as he healed the Mithra. "So we're splitting the reward 6 ways now instead of 4? Seems fair enough, so long as these two help us get rid of the Galka before it turns to 8 ways..."

---

Cures Jal for 10+1d6.

Jal stopped, seeming to freeze entirely. Under his cloak and pants his hidden tail twitched almost imperceptibly. He quickly pulled up his hands and stared at them obviously doing some sort of calculations in his head before slumping to the ground dejectedly, looking like nothing more than a puddle of depression even as his harpoon wound stitched itself back together.

"Six times..." he muttered to himself with a slightly cracking voice... "334 gil..."

"So we're splitting the reward 6 ways now instead of 4?"

"Welp, that sounds like a verbal agreement to me!" Prasad announced quietly, turning his attention to Jal, "Let's get cracking! Knifesy: when the smoke hits, make your way toward the door and sneak out when I grab their attention. Everyone else, get ready to move in when the fighting starts. I'd suggest Catty McBigsword heads in on the bike first with the casters following behind when it's obvious the ceiling isn't going to fall on you as soon as you step out. Ready? Break!"

With that, the moogle tossed a smokebomb down onto the floor in the middle of the room, filling the chamber with a thick cloud of smoke as he made his way out the door, exclaiming loudly as he fled, "Haha! You thought you had me, but I am truly the master of escape! And with the book, even! You shall leave empty handed on this day, indeed! Woe be upon those who should presume to stand against us!"

Emerging from the smoke into the outside corridor, Prasad called out to the galka as he made his way to them, putting his every bit of charm into it and hoping they didn't call his bluff too early, "Guys, I got it! Don't shoot! I got the book!"

------------------------

Prasad (boss) used a Smokebomb and fled the battle!
Prasad (player) has joined the party!
Made an Acting (2) check and spent 1 Destiny Point to activate the Charming trait, adding an additional 1d6 to the roll.

There's something humorous about trying to make a deal with someone you were just fighting with a moment ago - but it was even funnier when that same person then turned away from you and started talking with the person you were supposed to be guarding. From this distance, he couldn't figure out much of what was happening, though he could tell at least that the white mage healed Jal's wounds.

Jal recovers 6 HP.

Thankfully, he couldn't complain. The longer they stalled, the sooner Biggs would be able to move again - and then he would have their ticket out of here. Still, something didn't feel right...

He couldn't tell what the moogle was thinking, chatting it up with their opponents. His gut instinct told him that Prasad was going to betray them - he had to be careful. Wedge kept a diligent eye on the group, ready to activate the ceiling with a shot of his harpoon at a moment's notice.

...but then, suddenly, Prasad set off a smoke bomb. Though Wedge couldn't see what was happening, he could hear Prasad's voice calling out to him.

"Guys, I got it! Don't shoot! I got the book!"

"That crafty bastard." Wedge couldn't help but grin. It seems that the gambler didn't betray them after all.

It was at that time that Wedge finally returned to the land of the moving. Blinking, he looked around, realizing he was no longer in the same spot that he had been before.

"Eh? What happened to the people we were fighting?"

"There's no time to think about that now - Biggs, activate that spell!"

"What? Are you sure? But what about the book?"

"Prasad has the book, now hurry!"

Biggs nodded, preparing to activate the weapon hidden in his sword. Then, as Prasad came flying out of the smoke, Wedge jumped up and grabbed him with one arm. Wedge's other arm then reached out to Biggs.

"Biggs, do it now!"

"Gotcha boss. Teleport!"

And, with that, the trio disappeared before the smoke had even cleared.

Biggs activates Spell Effect: Teleport. Enemy Party + Prasad disappears.

Jal had hauled himself up off the floor with a heavy heart and steeled himself to move as soon as the Galkans were distracted, his body coiling itself into a crouch, the powerful muscles of his legs prepared to launch him forward with all the speed and stealth he could muster... and then all three of them vanished.

Slowly he stood up and stared at the empty spot for a moment as the smoke cleared.

'Did he betray us...?' the Mithra thought to himself for just a moment before turning around and dashing toward the chest, doing his best to push the slab off. If the book was missing, he would be VERY put out.

Bello's jaw hit the floor as "Why didn't I think of that?!" raced through his head.

He was going to do some more reading on battle tactics when he got back. Maybe he'd find a new story there as well.

"Wait!" Another, more important thought occurred to him. "We have to save him!" Bello swept his arms at his compatriots. "Prasad risked his life to help us out of here! He has a fifty-thousand Gil debt here, and he's been teleported to his debtor with nothing! He's in serious trouble here!" His eyes pleaded with his fellows; after they delivered the book, they had to deliver their new ally.

It took some effort, but Jal managed to push the slab off of the container. There, he saw the book - covered in dust but more or less intact. It had a thick, leather cover, titled (perhaps unsurprisingly) "The Atrocity of Grace." Naturally, it was written in Ancient.

Besides that, however, there are no details of the cover. There is no author, nor a date listed - though obviously it must be very, very old.

There don't appear to be any traps in the container, so it seemed that retrieving the book wouldn't set anything off. However, should anybody try picking it up, they'll notice that it's far heavier than it looks - nearly a hundred pounds for a book that looked to be no bigger than a regular journal.

Breathing a deep sigh of relief as the book was still in the chest, Jal looked back at Bello. "What? No. He... what? He's not even our ally! He shot poor Ralts, and he only switched sides when it became obvious his 'friends' were betraying him! Besides, we have absolutely no idea who his debtor is, or where they might've gone," he said, a bit shocked that it was even suggested that they go after the moogle.

Regardless, they had more important things to deal with right now, as Jal turned back to the chest and reached in, grunting a bit as he tried to lift the book. "Urgh... h... what the... someone give me a hand with this thing!"

Whomever walked over would probably find the situation hilarious as Jal struggled to lift the book, looking like it should weigh no more than a few pounds, from his awkward angle.

Was it appropriate to do this? Would it net more adventures?

Of course it would.

Tears welling in his eyes, Bello cried, "He only shot Ralts because he was afraid! Even if his plan didn't come through how he meant to, he got us out of this crisis. We at least owe him enough to save him. We're heroes, right?!"

"Haha! You thought you had me, but I am truly the master of escape! And with the book, even!" Prasad called tauntingly, hurling down a smoke bomb. "You shall leave empty handed on this day, indeed! Woe be upon those who should presume to stand against us!"

"Raaarrrgh, you little thief! I'll tear your pom-pom off!" Jade screamed after him, in what was possibly genuine rage. Mounted again, she burst through the door like a demon with her engine roaring and sword held aloft, smoke wreathing her.

The trio was already gone. Drawing to a halt, Jade swung the flat of her sword around to clear the smoke and little and sneezed as some went up her nose.

Kicking the bike's stand down and dismounting, she found Jal had already dashed back in to check on the book. Bello was arguing with Jal about helping Prasad. The little tarut was in tears.

She ruffled his hair, finding it hard to resist the urge to do so. "Don't cry." she said, projecting thoughtless confidence. "There's nothing we can do now, so we'll have to do something later!" This logic apparently satisified her.

Jal was distracted from his end of the argument by his difficulties with picking up a book.

It was hilarious.

Jade stepped over to give him the help he so desperately required. About to crack a joke as she grabbed the book, her smile died.

It was heavy.

"I do not trust this book." the Mithra declared, hefting the tome thoughtfully. It was probably dangerous.

"You can read it now." she said to Ralts, thrusting it at him.
