That's hardly a reason to assume every word that comes out of Nale's word is a lie. He had no particular reason to lie about that particular tenet, since it's unlikely he ever intended for Elan to meet Tarquin, or for the family backstory exposition to ever become relevant at all.

Tarquin acts like a bard (or like Elan, at least), even if he plainly isn't one anymore. This supports both the theory that Tarquin used to be a bard, and by extension his alleged view of "bards are underpowered".

I'm fairly convinced Tharquin is or at least was a bard. His focus on drama hints very heavily at that. He intentionally kept the brothers a secret from each other to increase dramatic tension and I'm certain that throwing Haley out the window was for a similar effect.

If he switched classes, he still has levels in bard with the abilities that come with it so drama would still be important to his ability to function no matter how many levels in warrior (or prestige class) he has.

thats why I also included unreliable and unbias. even if its the truth its his perseption of it. I meantioned this before with his mother. He might have gotten "bards are lame" from something like "not a good class for combat"

I thought it was more that Elan's mom was a schemer who thought up insanely complicated ploys to accomplish simple tasks, and that's what Nale inherited from her.

I think Retarded is the wrong word here. I am thinking something more like simple or naive. As she was truly unaware of what evil bastard her husband was.

Or, because Burlew is a fan of subversion, she is actually the smart one in the family given Tarquin's current oddities.
