Default You know what *I* learned today?

Stink bugs. You know, those little shield-shaped fuckers that stick everywhere and buzz annoyingly and are creepy and crawly and hate you. And when you exact revenge upon them, they stink.

Yeah, they can survive the vacuum of SPACE.

This fucking terrifies me.

Wait, really? Do you mean just a plain ol vacuum, or actually in space? As far as I was aware, the best thing there was was Water Bears, and even those would probably go down in a few weeks. =(

poor lil guys

Well, I made a vacuum chamber, and I was fiddling with it earlier and decided to see its effect on the annoying little fuckers. It did nothing!

Its a pretty good vacuum, it gets down to about 26 inHg, which is around the pressure at the Karman line, which is the common definition of where space begins.

...Water Bears?

I learned that solving complex expressions is surprisingly hard.

Anyone know what the best way to find the roots of (8i(3)^1/2 - 8)^1/4 is?

Today I learned that during hurricane season in Florida every day, even if it looks like a beautiful sunny day out the window all day at work, it will be pouring rain and thundering by the time I get home and get my swim trunks on.

Should be 1.56i but I haven't done imaginary numbers in a year or so (and my teacher was an idiot), so I could be wrong.

Clearly, we need to be using stink bugs for our deep space exploration.

Went through and solved it. The roots are +-(sqrt3 + i). For a completely different question. Wow. Way too tired right now. On to the actual question now!

Actual answer! +-(3.86 + 1.04i), +-(1.04 - 3.86i)

You see, usually at school if a teacher told me this i would go "No, sorry.. care to try again?" or something like that.

Or i would simply say "2" and if the teacher tells me i'm wrong i would ask him to prove me why it can't be 2... that usually fucks them up pretty nicely.
