Cloverfield Theories (Scientific Method Not Required)
SPOILERS OF TRULY EPIC PROPORTIONS
Cloverfield, ah yes, that once mysterious movie that has hidden in the shadows of your mind for six months is finally out in theatres! Huzzah you may think to yourself, I am finally going to understand what the fuck this movie is about. Well, I have some news for you- you aren't. This movie reveals almost as little as possible. Seeing Cloverfield is about as satisfying as eating those little rice puff things with the oatmeal guy on them. Sure, they are delicious, but they always leave you craving more. That's what I want this thread to offer-more about Cloverfield. I admit that I am only one small man in the entiredy of the endless internets. With the help of the NPF (that always sounds so official to me) I believe that it will be a matter of hours or even minutes if the right people have the right amount of time until this movie is an open book. There are theories all over the place about so much of this movie. Personally, I don't really think there was anything that fell in the water in the clip at the end of the movie. That's just me, and I've only seen the movie 3 times (two times in theatres and once on the very computer I am typing at now). I'm sure that I could be mistaken, and that there could be some high quality video proof out there that I haven't seen yet. That's not what I'm interested in, I want ideas and speculation. I want to know what sort of crazy ass fiction you guys can spout in order to make sense of the cornucopia of insanity Cloverfield is. What do you think was happening to Marleena when they pulled her behind the tarp? What do you think happened to the other helicopter? Do you think there is only one monster, or are there many? The military was pretty quick to show up when the monster attacked, do you think they know more than they let on? The whole radio tranmission with the guy saying "its still alive" at the end, do you believe that there is any truth to that, or is it a strnage convenience? I don't make threads often, but this is something that truly interests me, and I hope that there is some good feedback about the whole what the hell is going on with Cloverfield craze on the NPF.

What do you think was happening to Marleena when they pulled her behind the tarp?
She exploded! You saw as much as I did. I think it's just a sure-kill chemical for the little guys. something inside would be too "Aliens." What do you think happened to the other helicopter? One of the monsters clearly attacked it. Do you think there is only one monster, or are there many? Many. See the bridge scene had a tentacle, one of the monsters was big enough to take down a helicopter, one was smaller. The military was pretty quick to show up when the monster attacked, do you think they know more than they let on? They always do. The whole radio tranmission with the guy saying "its still alive" at the end, do you believe that there is any truth to that, or is it a strnage convenience? No such thing as a coincidence in this movie. Oh, and I did see the thing fall into the water.

The venom from the spider creature killed her. What do you think happened to the other helicopter? I think it got away. Otherwise we would have heard that the chopper went down. Do you think there is only one monster, or are there many? I refuse to call the thing a monster as it is only following its baser instinct. There may be more creature then one of those things around. The military was pretty quick to show up when the monster attacked, do you think they know more than they let on? I think the moment the Statue of Liberty was decapitated, the military was put on mobilize. Considering it is New York, a major urban center, it is no surprise that they were mobilized fast The whole radio tranmission with the guy saying "its still alive" at the end, do you believe that there is any truth to that, or is it a strnage convenience? I am sure that it is still alive. There are no coincidences as someone said. |

Her gut exploded, Alien-style. Did something else pop out of her stomach? That I can't say, but I'm pretty confident that it was her stomach, because when the guys first came into the infirmary, a dead soldier was wheeled past, his guts very much exposed. Do you think there is only one monster, or are there many? Judging by the rumor (fact?) that it was eating Seabed Nectar that mutated Cloverfield, it's perfectly acceptable to believe that there are other things that ate that stuff and got mutated as well.

I'm gonna go against the general consensus: I think there was only one monster.
The thing that took the bridge out was not a tentacle but rather the tail. At the end it only seemed smaller because Hud was zoomed in, so it appeared to be much closer to him that it actually was. That was my impression, in any case.

I'm with Rick on this one. Besides, the area of devastation seems too small to me to have been cause by a plural number of creatures.
About Marleena, I like to think that she was somehow parasited by the monster's parasites, and the reason she was exploded by the military was to kill the bastard incubating in her. |

I'm pretty sure it was some sort of crazy chemical reaction that caused her insides to jumble up and turn into oxygen or something.
And yeah, nothing jumped out of her body. She was just remarkably slimmer afterwards. Something could have, but since she was bitten I severely doubt it (No alien wing-wong), and besides, the lighting through the tarp was enough that you see anything.
