Tech Support Help Kyanbu Build a gaming rig... that he can afford

You know they say you never know how weak your PC truly is until you compare it to an entry level PC. And my god my system is very weak apparently.

So depending on how things go this summer and how the holiday season looks. I may be getting a gaming rig (or somehow upgrade my current PC if it's possible).

So here's what I need. I want an entry level gaming rig that can play most PC games at minimum to mid settings efficiently for as low a price I can get it at. I know there's still a few user that are familiar with PC. Or at least I hope.

So can you guys help me out?

Also while my laptop seems to be a tad bit stronger, it's not strong enough.

My Compaq PC's specs
2.00 GB of RAM (1.75GB Useable)
Processor is a AMD Athlon II 170u Processor 2.00GHz
OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
500 GB Hard drive

My Gateway Laptop's Specs
3.00 GB (2.84 GB usable)
Processor is a Intel(R) HD Graphics and Celeron (R) CPU B820 1.70 GHz
Windows 7 64-Bit
320 GB Hard drive

Yes, yes I know my machines are horribly weak. >_> Well the Desktop is anyway.

Pfft, everyone on this forum preordered the Xbox One the moment it was announced, I don't get why you think we'd care about *shudder* PC-gaming.

First thing you want to look for is a barebones kit (basically an unconstructed PC, minus peripherals and higher-end graphics hardware). Sounds like you already have passable peripherals, so all you'll need is a graphics card and (depending on the included hard drive) a larger hard drive. Generally passable graphic cards can be found in the GTX 500 series of cards (I ran off of a 560 for a long time with no problem, only upgrading from it recently).

Or even better, buy a SEGA Dreamcast.

Well, your PC could definitely use a full upgrade BUT, since you don't want to spend a lot, a Nvidia Geforce GTX 650ti would work well for you, IF you PSU can handle it.

Also...don't install 64 bit anything unless you got 4+ GB or RAM.

900 is PROBABLY enough to just get a new computer that's well better in every way than that, to be honest.

Do you know how to build your own? Like, how to put tab a into slot a? It's not hard but uh, it's expensive if you fuck up.

Through watching tuts and through my uncle and step father. Yes, I know a bit about piecing PCs together. And I have them to turn to if I need help.

PSU: Rosewill CAPSTONE-750-M 750W Continuous @ 50°C, Intel Haswell Ready, 80 PLUS GOLD
From newegg on sale (apparently it had a really good sale. Still on sale maybe, but not as good as when he grabbed it). "However, that big of a psu is not necessary, i got one that big just in case i crossfire another gpu in the future. Even a 650W bronze 80+ is PLENTY!" - my friend's words. Also, "He can choose something completely different, just recommend he gets something at least bronze 80+ and i'd say 550W minimum." Again, his words, so if anyone here wants to confirm or refute them feel free.

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K Processor - Quad Core, 6MB L3 Cache, 3.4GHz, 84W
From tigerdirect, currently $200, awesome deal.

Memory: G.Skill Sniper 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Ram doesn't really matter, but that's what he chose.

Storage: Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive
That's the harddrive he had already, so what you go for depends on your size preference, budget, and if you find any deals.

Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 3GB Video Card
Newegg, decent deal

Antec Nine Hundred ATX Mid Tower Case from here.
That's their b stock site. You buy cases that didn't make the cut, so they might have minor scratches or something, but they're around half price.

Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-Z87X-UD3H LGA 1150 Intel Z87
From Newegg, but apparently there are other options on this list.

Hope this helps!
