Rebirth of Destruction Sign-up/Discussion
The gods of of Eldaril Tirham enjoy taking mortal form and perusing the country side. The goddess of love, Vanya--who would walk the world as a beautiful woman, the god of balance, Moloch--who often appeared as a thri-kreen with brilliantly blue eyes, The God of Magic, Expio--who would appear as a swirling vortex of power, and others, many others. The most notable god to the mortals, however, was Alucard Atropos, God of Destruction and Power. By his very nature it was required that he was the strongest of the gods, with the ability to destroy anything, and so he was... and his chosen avatar was of a faerie with glowing red eyes and long silver hair. Alucard walked the realm of man and caused terror, death, and--of course--destruction wherever he walked.
Thousands of years ago, however, all the races united against him, and they were able to stave him off, long enough for a council of faerie mages to lock his essence away into an amulet. The mortals had 'defeated' the most powerful of the gods, but Alucard was not dead--only trapped. His power was too great to seal entirely, and so, even locked in an amulet, his presence could be felt. Any who touched it risked having their very being possessed by the god of destruction, and so the amulet was sealed away in a vault, the location of which was hidden and locked away from any eyes. After the god was sealed away, the fae races used their great magical power to enslave the humans, and use them as they liked. Humans became nothing more than manual labor, whipped and goaded into agreeance with the fae races, but some still lived free, hidden away from the fae. Eventually those humans got tired of hiding and fought for the freedom of their brethern, attacking the fae whenever they could. The war raged and for hundreds of years the fae and the humans were on equal terms, with the humans numbers outweighing that of the fae, but the fae's power being immense. Eventually, however, the humans discovered iron and steel, two metals that the fae had never allowed to be produced. The humans soon found out why: faeries, the strongest of the fae races, were burned horribly by even the lightest contact with this dreaded metal. The war stayed steady until the first of the iron tipped arrows landed in a faerie chest... after that a group of fae known as the Seelie declared that they no longer cared if the humans were free, and created a magical realm for themselves bringing with only some pure blooded elves, pixies, sprites, and other beautiful fae races. The tide of the war turned. The faeries left to fight with the remaining elves declared themselves the unseelie, and they fought a bloody war, where both sides suffered largely, for more centuries yet. Eventually they became warped by the constant bloodshed, and mostly evil. Beyond that they were also pushed back into a small corner of the only known continent. The elves saw the effect the war was having on their fae brethern, and also saw that their chances of winning were slim at best. They began peace talks with the humans, and so the unseelie fled to their own magical realm. They, however, allowed any fae race with even the slightest amount of fae blood to enter. Goblins, kobolds, and anything else. After defeating the faeries, the humans became blood thirsty and believed that they should rule the world, and so they began conquering all the other races, changing them into second rate citizens, and in some cases full out slaves. One race after another fell, until few were left free. Over a thousand years have passed since then, and now most races are subjugated. This is the world that the RP exists in. Faerie courts are loosely based on Celtic mythology in how they act. Unseelie Court isn't quite that evil, and Seelie Court is more stuck up. They both have basic codes of honor: The seelie court members may never break a promise if they give their word, believe that love conquers all (you may steal and kill for love), and also believe strongly in rule by law (unless love is involved). The unseelie court, however, believes strongly in change (change is life), believe anyone should do what they love and damn anything else (no matter what you enjoy, you're allowed to do it in impunity and ignore responsibility), and believe that 'glamour' is free... glamour being beauty and magic. (Glamour is FREE man! You can't OWN glamour!)... as such they're known to mark things with graffiti art, give out beautifying spells freely, and gold... etc. However, this goes both ways... if they want your 'glamour' they'll just take it. Also, both courts sometimes let mortals into their realms, if the mortals are very very good at some form of art. By let... I mean they kidnap them. One more thing... if you learn a faerie's true full name, you may use it to command that faerie and make them do anything you want. Faeries guard them jealously though... so I don't want everyone just having a pet faerie within a few pages... but it would make for a good pre-rp relationship, or if it's done well within the RP, to gain control of a PC... or NPC (but I or Ren get to control the NPC). Also: Most fae races can use a skill called 'glamour' that allows them to alter their appearance, or the appearance of anything else they wish. This alteration is both seen and felt, although it IS only an illusion. Races: Human--Duh Centaur--again, duh Kenku--Bird people Kua-toa--Violent stupid fish people... inbred. thri-kreen--Insects Minotaur--Duh Sahuagin--Violent shark people with four arms Wemic--A centaur, only half lion instead of horse Doppleganger--A sentient 'golem' capable of changing shape Rock Man--A sentient rock golem Xodar--Sentient suit of armor Dwarf--duh Elf--like tolkien Drow--Dark elves... I'm sure you know what they are. Gnome--Really shitty inventors Nymph--beauty incarnate Triton--Sea dwelling race of people... think aquaman, only not as powerful Giant--They're REALLY REALLY REALLY big Bugbear--kinda like furry trolls, or big orcs Goblin--battle fodder Hobgoblin--short, magically inclined, more intelligent albeit weaker goblins Kobold--rat, lizard, dog... things Ogre--your mother in-law Duergar--are to dwarves as drow are to _____ (like one of those shitty elementary school tests) Orc--duh Troll--you know what it is. lizard man--self explanatory Naga--half snake half person Faerie--Sidhe faeries. 6 feet tall and magically inclined. One could say that they ARE magic dryad--tree spirits neried--sea nymphs, often mistaken for the land types sprite--little faeries (like the kind most people think of) half-elf--...duh half-orc--Ick half-ogre--even more icky mul(half-dwarf)--strong, kinda dumb. Heucuva--sentient skeletons imp--mischievous little sprite-like creatures. Look kinda like demons. faerie dragon--dragons about the size of a cat the breath of which causes euphoria and hallucination feles--basically... anime cat people. Illithid--mind flayer... octopus faces vagabond--wandering spirits which may possess corpses oni--single horned, tall, slender beings that are magically attuned

There's FAR more information on every race in the attachment, as well as information on some guilds that you may or may not be a member of. You can also ask me if you want a new guild you can be a member of. I suggest finding a few races in that list, looking them up in the attachment, and then reading up on them and choosing from there.
Magic: If you know some, you have to have a good reason, or be a magically attuned race. Magical information is guarded jealously... if you aren't a magically attuned race and know any magic, some mage has taught you... if you know anything beyond a few VERY weak spells, you're an apprentice to someone. There are spells, however, which allow a good mage to destroy entire cities, given some preperation time. In other words, powerful but rare. Psionics: Just like magic. Powerful, but very jealously guarded because of it. Abilities will be in attached file as well. Technology: Medieval, except for gnomes. Gnomes can have guns, bombs, etc. Mostly anything so long as you ask me first... however, they only work about half the time... if the gnome that made it was really really good at making things. If you have a gun, it's just as likely it's going to backfire and kill you, as it is to shoot your enemy. Also, magic and technolgy isn't combined because of how guarded magic is. Non-gnomes CAN have gnomish inventions, but they should clear it with me, and explain why they have gnomish inventions, and why they're insane enough to want to use them. Basic Plot: The Amulet of Alucard falls into the hands of a creature with low willpower, who slowly transforms into the dark god himself... everything past that is going to be kinda secret. Mostly we'll be starting apart from each other... and the first chapter or two will go by with more 'minor' problems than Alucard. I STRONGLY suggest having pre-rp relations with someone, or finding some way to end up in a human city, or the seelie/unseelie court, where others will be... so that you can work off of each other. Everyone will eventually wind up together, however. Story-telling/changing is split between I and Ren, as that this is based off of an IM RP we've done together, and the characters/world therein... and the world/races/etc. is based on the plans for a MUD I plan on making... eventually. That's why the race file is so detailed, and has things like 'commands' in it. And the templates are a slightly altered version of the retro-mud ones... because retro-mud had most of the things that I and Nate wanted... but we added some stats, took out some areas, renamed some things, and added some areas. My character's bio. He may seem a bit powerful... but I expect the other PCs to be rather expert at something or another as well... but mostly not magic. Also... most of you will all have chances to increase in power DRAMATICALLY, whereas Jareth's abilities will remain constant, as will his equipment. Plus... our enemy is going to make the power levels seem not so high. Name: Jareth Occupation: King of the Unseelie Court Race:Faerie Skills: Various magical defense, parrying dodging, picking locks, and other escape artist-isms, as well as stealth. Appearance: Jareth is an attractive faerie, with pale skin, brilliant green eyes, and touselled black hair. He, like all faeries, has an effeminate and beautiful body, thin yet strong. He generally wears a black silk vest with gold embroidery over a white cotton shirt with puffy sleeves and a lace up collar that comes half-way up his neck (think link's shirt under his tunic combined with Errol Flynn's shirt in most of his movies), a pair of straight black cotton slacks, and a pair of black travelling boots. When he is dressed formally, he wears the same clothes as well as a pendant signifying him as king of the unseelie court and a cape with the unseelie court's coat of arms. Bio: Jareth's parents were killed when he was at the tender age of 250 years old, but he was able to do in the assassin before he could be killed. Thus Jareth took the unseelie throne. As a ruler he is lax, hardly ever doing any actual ruling, and instead spends most of his time amongst the human world, and the seelie court causing mischief under disguise. As a person Jareth is extremely easy going and is constantly jesting and pulling pranks. He rarely has a serious moment and never gets angry, except for when someone has been wronged horribly. He, however, is only an expert of defensive sword play, and is quite lacking in offense. He is also skilled at teleportation and magical protection, however, again, is quite lacking in magical offense. He abhors killing, and only does it when he becomes enraged, otherwise he merely avoids attacks and runs... due to his lifestyle, however, he's perfected both of those arts. One would be amazed to find how many people absolutely hate having itching powder poured into their shampoo, and attempt to kill people for it. He also never pays for his own things... he uses a slight alteration of the teleport spell to transport whatever money he needs to himself from the very person that he's paying. The story picks up a few hundred years after he came to power, making him nearly 500 years old. And Ren's Bio Name: Renesival Occupation: Seelie Queen Race: Faerie Skills: Protocol, diplomacy, glamour, magic, and archery Appearance: Fairly tall, with silvery-blue hair so pale it's almost white. Said hair trails along the floor by about a foot or so. She has very wide, intense blue eyes fringed with thick, dark lashes. Her skin is a sort of moonlight porcelain colour- very pale, shimmery, and soft. She's voluptuous and flawless, insanely beautiful as a result of her ancestry. She's often fully decked out in Seelie regalia, meaning pounds and pounds of rich dresses and fancy hairstyles and flowers and silver and pearls. She has large, thin, iridescent wings that act as prisms. Bio: Renesival was born as something like an experiment. The Seelie Council spent 500 years breeding the most beautiful, powerful faeries they could find using aging spells. Renesival was born, spelled with an enchantment that makes her age at approximately one year per week (until age 18, when it breaks), and placed on the throne. As a result of the selective breeding of her ancestors, she is very, very beautiful and rather powerful, though it is unknown whether or not the age spell has any effect on this. She was raised a very mild mannered, quiet girl with an affection for books and the arts. She is a patron of Vanya. *Disclaimer: Jareth's bio is kind of simplistic and shoddily written because I was burned out on writing everything else. PS: This is the first Forum RP I've started... Ren's done some before, but she's a bit out of practice... so if you have some changes to suggest talk to either me or her in PMs, or post something here... and we'll discuss it with each other. PPS: As I said, magic is jealously guarded... I want maybe one or two mages and psions (past Ren and I) that have any real power. Knowing a few small spells or having a few weak psionics is ok... but I don't want many past that. However... fighters are allowed to do some 'magic-like' things. Like the shuku-chi, which allows someone to move so quickly that they fade in and out of vision in battle. Anything like this should be cleared with me first... and I'd prefer to have you learn things like that, or perfect them, during the course of the RP. PPPS: Attachment info is guilds/psionics. Races one is from human to Orc, and races two is trolls to the end. Races are in the same order as the list in the first post. Edit: Added magic to info attachment, and information to the top of the races2 file... same stuff as on the top of the races1 file. Edit2: Fixed a stupid copy paste error in the info file. Edit3: Ren wants someone to be a Seelie Faerie... as such if you make a seelie faerie I may be able to stomach giving someone else some pretty decent magic... Characters thus far: Jadguy--Jormungand, 40 foot naga, stalker guild----------Hunting, tracking, stealth, nature lore, wrestling, and weapons fighting FZ------Zalbag, human pyromancer, order of the dragon--Pyromancy(Magic), Blunt Weapon, Ancient Weapon, Artifact Lore, Magic Lore, Chainmail armor. Ecurt---Rovial, Feles bodyguard-------------------------Hand to hand combat, climbing, stealth, some clairsentience and physchometabolism IHMN---Vlad Frost, Vampire Psioncist--------------------Telepathy (Major in Domination and Psychic Crush), metamorphosis, control light and split-personality. Biran---Greg Taylor, gnomish inventor-------------------Inventing, Blacksmithing, and using gnomish technology (I.E. he's insane). We still have plenty of room for more, and truth be told, I'd like to see some more. If you're reading this... sign up, damnit.

Hmm, I definatly see some of the Retro-MUD influence. I contemplated joining Retro-MUD at one point, and had it all worked out, but then just sort of quit. Any chance I can submit that character here? He was Zalbag, the Human Mage Pyromancer. However, I will look over the list of guilds and decide if I want to change or not even if it is possible to use him.

Sure, a human pyromancer sounds good. Just mention something about apprenticing and/or being a member of the guild of fire mages in the info file. Hmm... I think I'll edit the info file a bit to add some information on the spells and what have you. Spell list isn't done, and even if it was it wouldn't be the end all be all... only reason I want to add it is to show the qualities of spells and how magic works.
Come to think of it, I also forgot to put up the bit of the race file that shows what all the words next to stats mean in the second one. And yah, the race files are heavily retro-mud influenced, but the actual meat of the game wouldn't be... skills and what have you. For instance, you can be a human pyromancer and be quite decent with an actual weapon. And... anyone can learn some magic, if you or another mage in the group is willing to teach them. Of course, teaching a troll magic would take some sort of masochist... Edit: There, have some information on magic added to the info file and added some information to races2 at the top.

I'm being a Pscionic... Don't know what else.
Edit - And who wants to be my pre-relation person?

Alright, quick questions. How big a weapon will a mage be able to wield? I know armor is out all together, but could a mage handle using a war hammer? The other question is, I was an apprentice once, but I can be a full fledged wizard at the start, right?

Actually, you can use any armor you want as a mage... just realize that if it's too heavy you aren't going to be able to gesture very well, and most career mages don't spend time learning how to operate in armor, and wouldn't be all that useful to a powerful mage that can set up decent protection spells anyway. So... I wouldn't suggest armor, but if you REALLY want to.
The way I see it, knowing one ability shouldn't keep you from learning another... it's just that the time taken to learn all these skills is going to make someone be less skilled at any one of them as they have less time to devote to any one skill. So, yah, you can use any weapon you like, although your proficiency isn't going to be as good as someone that spent most of their life studying weapons. Edit: And yah, you can be a full fledged wizard at the start... although I plan on you being even more full fledged by the end. Edit 2: Oh, and IHMN, if you want to be an unseelie half-elf or something like that, and no one else wants to, Jareth could be your pre-rp. Like I said in his bio, he spends most of his time messing around and not too much actually doing his job, so there's a decent chance of him knowing just about anyone.

I was thinking Oni...
And I know you said your bio seems god moddy, but you make Faeries out to be gods who are weak to iron, but ignore that on your guy completely... Edit - I see the word slave a lot in the races, can I have a slave?

Ahh, yah... He's still weak to iron, if he touches the blade of his rapier it'd burn him pretty badly, he just keeps to the hilt. I might change that though... it's a weapon he only uses when he needs to fight another faerie, and is angry enough to kill... and I could probably have him use a silver sword.
Actually, I probably will. Edit: You can... although I don't know about an oni having one, but then oni culture is pretty unknown, so whatever. Humans kind of rule the world, other than the faerie realms and the elven nation... and keep slaves, which is why you see that in a lot of races. Edit2: Got rid of the sword... that's one of those things that are ok in a more relaxed RP environment where other people aren't suppose to be equal to you, but probably not such a good idea in a forum RP.

Another question. Under the second Guilds category there appears to be several guilds with different aspects of Psionics in each. If that is right, would I have to pick one of those guilds and get only those forms of Psionics?
Edit - And are Mind Flayers human looking and have tenticles coming from their mouth, or are they just humanoids?
