Why do you like Halo(walo)?
First off i like to start out by saying this isn't a Halo bashing thread i'm not saying OMG HALO SUXS BALLZ PLAY HL2 FOOL!!!!11, now that's outta the way here my qestion. Why do u and several other peopler love Halo so much I know several people who talk as if gaming is a kiddy waste of time that love Halo a little too much. To me i didn't think much of Halo (poor levels and weapon blance) but there this huge cult of fans that hail it as the best FPS of all time, did i miss something? The best answer i have is the way it was marketed it easy to get into and not that deep of a game couple with the xbox's small libary of high quality xbox games it was able to rase up high in the ranks that and the xbox was always marketed as the "Mature People's Console".
So i'd like other people's input on why it sells so well and please don't just say halo is the best fps off all time and what ever fps i like sucks, i want reasoning that the game sells so well, even to people who would normaly not play games at all.

you know what, I really like Halo, I don't even know why, maybe they put crack into the disk that go's though the controller cords into your fingers and it just addicts you? but seriously i find the fact that snipers even with a headshot dont kill you in one hit nice, because he is wearing tons of armor, the fact that the assault rifle isnt to powerful and you have to be at a somewhat medium range for it to be effective, for the shotgun to be anything near useful it has to be at basically hitting range and all other gunns are well balanced to me, not to mention the races and master chiefs armor is all pretty awesome but Leo (VG Cats) looks better in it :thief:

I have been playing halo for a long time now and I dont think the guns are unbalanced.
I use the AR the best out of anything and can kill anyone with it. The most unbalacnd is, Id have to say, the pistol. It can kill someone in three rounds at any range, and if your good with it, like a frined of mine, you can deal out tons of damage. All the guns are good if you know how to use it and in the right situation. |

I don't like Halo. My fingers don't work right for the bizarre double joystick thing and I get blasted by my Halo-playing friends or eaten alive by little alien slaves.
Not fun.

Halo is fun though. It's not the best game I ever played though. It's just really fun. I think one thing that got me was the controls, I just can't stand the controls. But I can't find any other reason to hate it. I just didn't find it the best game out there. Still fun and I still can't wait for Halo 2

I love the controls, there the best controls I have ever used in a FPS.
And the controller I like out of any I have ever used before. |

I love Halo. Why? (Note: other games may have some, or most of these elements. If so, tell me! I'm quite certain I'd love them as well. A game dosen't have to be completely revolutionary for me to like it. It just has to be fun.)
The atmosphere. Its partly graphics, but mostly just some mystical element of it that pulls me in and makes me feel like I AM Master Cheif, and I'm about too shove a plasma gernade down your throat. The weapons. Unbalanced? Not if the person using them actually knows how they are best used. I always use the plasma rifle and sniper rifle. Though the sniper rifle is my favourite. Plasma is kept for medium to close range, and might be useful for long range, if the sniper rifle is out of ammo. The sniper... well, you can guess what its for (hopefully) The multiplayer. Its just great. *shrug* I can't explain why, its that mystical thing from the atmosphere part (A wizard did it!!) The story. Fantasy, *drools*. And I really like the whole "the human race is on the edge of extinction" thing. Sure, other games have done it, but most haven't actaully made you feel like you were really losing. You knew by the end of them you would have beaten back the oppressors, and restored us to the top of the food chain. In Halo, I just felt like the war wasn't going to be immediately won by my actions, but I had to do what I could, along with the other marines helping me. |

Now I know I ranted about this earlier in the summer and forgot there was a PC version, but that won't happen this time.
Halo was good becaue it was fun, like MoM said. Many people didn't care about the negatives because they were just having fun while they were blowing things up. I was one of these people. It was also fun for people who didn't play anything on the computer (people like me) or were just starting and had picked up an X-box with Halo. While there were mixed opinions about the controls, I think they're good for consoles. The scheme, while new and odd for some people, is pretty natural once you get used to it. Then again, this is just me, so don't listen to me if you don't want to on the controls subject. The story, I thought, was better than most. It was thought out and well executed. It could have been better, but I like it the way it is, so I won't try anything else. The weapons definitely aren't unbalanced. Like the people above me have said, it depends on how you use them. Now while the pistol is obviously the best weapon in the game (for those who know how to use it), the rest are much more balanced than some think. And like I said in my rant in the summer, this game wasn't meant for PC. It was supposed to be a console game, and only a console game until Microsoft wanted Bungie to port it to the PC. That said, all my judgements are from the console version only. |

my roommate and i were lucky enough to "take care" of an Xbox for a few weeks, so he and i played through the game on co-op. other than Baulder's Gate: Dark Alliance, it was one of the best multiplayer games we've played. the PC version of it wasn't all that spectacular, but was still worth a few good matches.

Personally, id say the best FPS game would be Metroid Prime, especially graphically... what gets me is people say Halo is great graphically when really it isnt
If its for multiplayer, id say Metroid Prime Hunters is going to have it beat, and probably also be the greatest portable FPS ever made aswell... Halo's combat wasnt that innovative, the driving vehicles isnt even that great, if I were enthralled by that id be playing Battlefield 1942/Vietnam because those ones definatly look much better for vehicles The entire reason Halo sold so well was marketting, its just like Counter Strike, you have to find the right people to pitch a game to. Personally, I have not seen any game worth buying an X-box for, the only thing even decent about it is Yoshiki promoting it in Japan, but then again that is just marketting. Halo, in my opinion, is exactly like Fable was, a poorly made game marketted so well people loved it before they ever played it.
