The all-around music thread
i have a feeling this MIGHT clash with some other music threads, but oh well..
-what kinds of music does everyone like?? thankfully there are tons of different music types or i atleast would be pretty bored. -what kinds of musical artists do you like??(also, mention what kind of music genre this group/person performs because im at a loss to lots of obscure and even popular artists..) -any other music idea that has popped up into your head.. i feel like ive said this a few times but oh well. i mostly like rap but right now ive been listening to a little bit of Rock. bands like ACDC mostly. anyone else listen to them. one thing ive been wondering is whether ACDC is an old band because i think that one of their songs was produced in the '80s. also, could someone reccomend any other Rock artists that they like?? atleast in rap, i mostly like underground(obscure) artists like Nas, Pharoahe Monch, Flipmode Squad, Atmosphere, and some Big L music and obviously Talib Kweli . atleast in reggae, ive been listenin to bob marley and some Shaggy. theyre quite good actually. in jazz, i dont really listen that much. but when i do, i mostly listen to BB king and some other people like louis armstrong, lou rawls. Yay, music threads!
I've mostly been listening to Alternative, Ska and Dance music. Artist wise, I like They Might Be Giants (They play strange and alternative music), Reel Big Fish (They play ska music) and Fatboy Slim(That's the dance music). I've also been listening to Amon Tobin, he made the "Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory" soundtrack (I'm planning to buy that when I have the money) I like my music to be either funky, good to fight to, or cheerful.

I like rock. I like techno. I dislike the subdivisions of techno because they confuse me, but if I think it sounds good, I like it. I like whatever the genre of the artists below, because I'm bad at labeling music.
Gorefiend is posting here, you must be thinking, and you can all guess what band I'll be promoting, huh? Yep. That's right. That band. I actually have some songs to recommend. I always do. First and foremost, Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt. It is arguably the coolest song in De-Loused in the Comatorium (the first full-length album of this band.) Second, Televators, a beautiful song. Just beautiful. Then, there's Cicatriz ESP, a good song, but the best parts are the guitar duets in the middle of the song. Then Eriatarka. Though inferior (im my opinion) to any of the aforementioned songs, it is both the heaviest (as in, loudest on the guitar) song and the song that won me over as a fan. Then from their first work, Eunuch Provocateur. Actually, this one get's a slightly higher priority. It's just good. And, from their new album, Cygnus... Vismund Cygnus and, perhaps, if you have 30 minutes to spare, Cassandra Geminni. It is good, arguably the best song they've ever put forth, but I warn you, it's long. Then, from other bands. I've always liked Coldplay, but until recently didn't have a song to speak of, except for Clocks (seen the little video of them playing it live (or what would seem live) a hundred times. But, now I can safely say one of my favorite songs from them is "How You See the World." Try to, well, erm, obtain it, since it only showed up in a longer version of Til' Kingdom Come (also a great song) but trust me, it's worth it. Mogwai. Mogwai rocks. I've learned one of the parts of Killing all the Flies, as it's one of my favorite songs. I also love Ratts of the Capital, Mogwai Fear Satan, Like Herod, and, best of all of these, Stop Coming to My House.

Nas is underground? You sure about that? Absolutely positive. I though he went up already.
And, I might add, I like jazz, but, like with techno, I listen to it on the radio, and never catch any titles. I also like the Gypsy Kings. Very good guitarists, if you ask me. Check them out.

My Music: like some other people here ill pretty much listen to anything with a good beat. though, i almost always stay away from religious/country/metal songs. i listen to oldies, a tiny bit of disco, blues, jazz(upbeat), rap, rock, punk, reggae, foreign(indian) and some others that i cant really think of. Alternative: im sure if i listened to some alternative music, i would like some of it. but, ive never listened to any that i know of. Techno: for all of the techno fans, does anyone like eiffel 65 or daft punk. those are some good techno bands in my opinion. i remember one eiffel 65 song that brung up tons of controversy because of the lyrics. it seemed like the artists were saying two different phrases. either "da ba dee da ba die" or "if i was green i would die". i could NEVER figure which phrase they were singing. also, they definetely werent singing them at the same time. |

I've got a fairly eclectic library of music, having been raised on blues, introduced to ska, and discovered industrial.
as of late i've been into the new Hot Hot Heat album, Elevator. i feel kind of bad enjoying the rock revival stuff, because its all music thats been done before; but all the same its still pretty good. Suburban Legends i only recently found, and they've quickly climbed the ranks to claim the #1 spot on my favorite ska bands list, mostly because they're the only one of my favorites that are still actualy making ska music (Goldfinger, Johnny Socko, Reel Big Fish...I'm looking at you). The Reverend Horton Heat is a fantastic Rockabilly band that i was introduced to a month or two ago. don't have a cd of thiers yet, but i will soon. I got the new Nine Inch Nails, God Lives Underwater and Mindless Self Indulgence albums, but i'm kinda lukewarm on all of them. MSI i expected alot more from, thier most recent (and probably last) is very generic sounding, and just generaly dissapointing (except for the song i've got quoted currently, its alright). God Lives Underwater i've never really been a huge fan of, but as it was a gift i've been trying to listen to it some, just too slow and tame for me. NIN also struck me as pretty subdued, but i was never a huge fan of them either. i've heard good things about System of a Down's latest, so i'll probably be getting that next time im shopping.
