Hometown talk
So I was browsing Wikipedia on information on the George Foreman grill (Cause I saw him eating at a local Mexican restaurant, and he remembered me and asked how my dad was doing.) when I came across the entry for my hometown. I honestly didn't know our town square was called the Whetstone Square. You learn something new everyday I suppose.
EDIT: Reading that, it sounded a bit spammy, so I am gonna clarify the purpose of this thread. I was bored and there were no topics of interest for me yet, so I decided to make one. I figured some people might like to talk about their hometowns.

Hey, did you guys know that Ottawa is the capital of Canada? Who'd have guessed?
Also, hah, our Rugby team is called the Harlequins.

Hey, did you guys know that Kerensky287 and I live in the same hometown? Wow that about nullifying my stuff to post!
Okay an interesting related tidbit, my best friend (whom I campaigned and partially funded) ran in the Ottawa 2006 Municipal Election. He lost. |

Did you know that my hometown has 30% of my countries population and is nearly as large (area-wise) as London despite only have 1 million people.
My suburb has one of the most boring Wikipedia pages around. |

I'm confused as to why my town even has a wiki article.
I mean it might be the time Bush made a speech at my school, but the place sucks ass. |

There's a movie named after my hometown that gets more google hits than the town itself.
Apparently, Fargo and the West Acres mall are a huge draw for Canadian shoppers... Edit: Try just typing your hometown name into firefox's address bar and see where it takes you. Fargo gets me this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116282/ Also, holy crap, the Wiki page is HUGE for my town!

Zilla, you're in Fargo? I'm only...
In any event, welcome to Winnipeg. The largest small town in the country. I'm serious, here. Such a small town vibe. We're the provincial capital, and also have 60% of the provincial population within our city limits. We also have the dubious honour of being the coldest city with a population greater than 500 000 in the world.

Hey, Winnipeg, where 18 year olds escape to to drink because it's legal there.
Seriously.

No doubt. Sane drinking laws, aren't they great? Of course, then the newly-18-year-old Americans are probably going to binge their hearts out, and hey, alcohol poisoning!
For the record, the Devils Lake Waterway should stay closed. Lake Winnipeg is in bad enough shape as it is.
