Tales of the Abyss
I've been looking forward to this game for a while, but I wasn't sure of when it came out. Imagine my surprise when I found out it was released a couple days ago. It's been getting some good press and the fact that it's made by the Symphonia team is a good sign, as Symphonia is my favorite current-gen RPG and Legendia only toed the line between good and mediocre.
Before I lay down 50 bucks, though, I'd like to know if you guys have had a chance to play it and what you thought of it.

yeah, i'd been looking at that one too. Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Legendia are supposed to be really good, but i noticed something the other day, when i looked at the case.
Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Legendia are both made by Namco. Tales of the Abyss isn't. I'm not sure if this means that the Tales series has been shifted to another company, or rather than Tales of the Abyss has nothing to do with the rest of the Tales series, but one way or the other, something big's bound to be different. -edit- nevermind, ignore this post. it just doesn't say Namco on the box. I looked it up again, and it does indeed look like Namco did publish this one, too. wonder why it's not on the box, though? Last edited by MagmaKYAG; 10-16-2006 at 02:34 PM. |

Well, I bought it, and it's an awesome game. I have one question, though.
Why are all of these cutscene-heavy games on the platform with the longest loading times?!? I mean, it's a minor issue, but I can't help but feel like I'd enjoy this much more if it was on the Gamecube like Symphonia.

Its done by Namco Bandai (I guess they merged companies?) It is awesome and I love it, it has fun battles, a good story and interesting art, as well as a good amount of humor.

I would also love to get Legendia and ABYSS... but currently have not enough money. One reason I like the "Tales Of..." series is because of the music composer Motoi Sakuraba.

I loved Symphonia.
As for Legendia, I had a problem with doing special moves with a direction and the O button. I ended up trading it in. Now that I found out that Abyss does it the same way, I've gotten used to it (And never thought of using the analog stick with the O button, doh). So now I want to get Legendia back. Going to wait till it drops to $20 though. As for Abyss, besides long loading times after battles on the world map, the game is great. Being able to freely run around on the battle field is a great addition, and the battle system works just as good, maybe somewhat better, than Symphonia. Its worth the $40. Just expect the loading times for the world map to be long. |

I really like the look of the game. I played Tales of Symphonia and loved it. Shame I live in the UK cos it isn't out over here. At least I can import.

Just beware, it looks about as good as Suikoden 5, and has an even worse framerate and laod times.
