Pokémon Umbral ~ Ruinous Origins Mission 2, Chapter 1
Mission 2: Neutralize Abnormalities In Mystery Mansion!
It was late afternoon but not quite evening yet when the call for all Watchmen to assemble in the briefing room came out. As the group neared the door, they heard a voice raised in song. A very familiar song. Impact, Charlotte, and Matthias would never forget it. But why was she singing a song like that? "Hey...you're crazy, bitch But you fuck so good, I'm on top of it! When I dream, I'm doin' you all night Scratches all down my back to keep me right on!" It was that bitch Shannon from the Evil Eevee Eight! The group hurried to find out why the hell that criminal was doing in the briefing room, but upon seeing Rachel and then noticing one of the hottest nurses in the history of hot nurses, they figured there'd be a reason. Shannon turned her head, then shut off her iPod. She gazed with all the evil womankind could ever muster at Charlotte, then turned her head away with a "Hmph." Lola gestured towards the seats. "Everyone, please take a seat so we can get started." Everyone did so...well, almost everybody. "That goes for you as well, Miss Mordhaus." Shannon looked at Lola, then shrugged and planted herself in a seat. The holographic system turned on and produced a small-scale replica on an old, creaky-looking mansion. "This is Mismagius Mansion, or as your everyday trainer calls it, Mystery Mansion. Not until recently, a number of electromagnetic fields have been detected within this mansion. We could be mistaken and they just might be some electric Pokémon starting a ruckus, but an eyewitness trainer reports seeing a Pokémon they've never seen before. Regional Chief Shevenston has considered it serious enough to have investigated, and since our branch is closest, we get first honors. Plus, if they are Ruin Pokémon, then you are still the best choice because you've all had frontline experience in fighting them. Well, all except for Miss Mordhaus, of course." Shannon smirked. "Hey, I'm still useful. Garus occasionally goes there and keeps abreast of things happening at the mansion." "Isn't Garus the ice Pokémon trainer? Why would he frequent that place?" "The guy loves haunts. Twisted little cherub." "Anyways, care to help this briefing along?" "Sure, I could do that. The mansion itself is home to a lot of Ghost, Psychic, Poison, Dark and Bug types. Garus is actually kinda pissed as a bunch of maniacs have been settling there. Like, there's this french guy in a pink tutu training a bunch of tutu-wearing Machokes." "You...you're not serious, are you?" "Wacky, ain't it?" was all Shannon said. Rachel was clutching her stomach, though no one could decide if she was trying not to laugh or trying not to throw up. Lola composed herself. "During nightfall which will be the time we'll arrive at the mansion, it should be easy to encounter all of our intended targets since all the maniacs tend to be more active at night. The mansion has two series of large rooms and long corridors where you'll encounter and neutralize the electromagnetic field-generating Pokémon and the...uhhh, unstable people inside." "Because there's two ways to search the mansion over entirely and not a whole lot of threatening forces, we'll be split up into two groups," Rachel said, then indicated Rayleen's Pokéballs on her belt. "I'll be working with one of the teams as their support and I'll be using District Chief Rayleen's Pokémon." "Miss Mordhaus and I will support the other team," Lola explained. "I will run support while Miss Mordhaus will be assisting with her grass Pokémon." "You could just call me Shannon," Shannon mumbled. There wasn't a whole lot to this mission. The mansion's layout was relatively straightforward and it was difficult to get lost or separated from the group. Should be a clean sweep, easily. "Excuse me, err... I think you must have misheard, because I don't seem to have heard your name?" Renny was a bit hestitant to speak up given how he was shot down recently, and she hadn't introduced herself so he didn't have a name ready. Although he did feel a little better that she was a nurse. If anything was to happen to his pokemon, she would a valuable asset. It didn't hurt that she was soothing to the eyes, not unlike all the charming pokemons he use.
"Anyhow, we have already been in discussion regarding the mission and how we would be distributed. I'll be in your team and if I recall correctly, so will Charlotte here. I think we are still working to decide on the last member, but otherwise we are essentially just fine-tuning our equipments and pokemon teams. Other then that, we're mainly ready although there have been thoughts over how we would be led or operate as a group. Do either you or Shannon have any thoughts on this?" As he heard the song, Impact's eyes widened, and a smile played across his lips. He had a good memory for voices, and this was a very familiar voice indeed. More precisely, one that he had heard screaming at Charlotte not too long ago. He entered the briefing room, and his grin widened as he saw that he had been right. He stepped around Renny, who was talking to the... was it Buneary? pokebrid. His eyes lingered on her for a moment, until he composed himself (though he didn't stop grinning) and turned to Shannon. "Mordhaus? Very nice name. German for "House of Murder". More intimidating than Shannon, in any case. You should use it more often, particularly when robbing banks. Though you do seem to have risen in the ranks... Two weeks ago you were being manhandeled into a police cruiser, and here you are today, member of the Watchmen. I do assume that's your role? In any case, how's Abomasnow? And how about Moon?"
He knew it wasn't too wise to act like this, but he wasn't going to be on her team, so he wanted to get the malice out of his system while he still could. "Charlotte's fine, by the way. On your team, probably." |

Renny took the slayer by the arm, and tried to lean close face to face, although his size meant he was closer to his neck than anything. All the same, he pulled the slayer back. As far as he was concerned, being prisoner or previously condemned was far beyond the call of being uncivil.
"IMPACT! Stop trying to shame our support, especially when you're not in the same group! The organization saw fit to enlist her help for this mission. They trust her enough to have decide that she would be suitable for this team and she came after all! Her past conduct is not something to be summoned at a whim, especially when you bring them up in such a embarressing manner. It could hardly even considered relevant! You got better things to do with your time." Last edited by Menarker; 03-09-2010 at 10:11 PM. |

Pierce smiled while Impact made fun of Shannon, and quickly stepped in when Renny started defending her. "It's her fault for choosing to be a criminal." He said. He wasn't going to be on her team anyway. "And not only is she not getting jail time, she gets to run around with us kicking ass and taking names. Consider the berating to be her punishment."
Dropping the smile, Pierce decided they should get back to business. Damned if if he was going openly admit that Renny was right, though. "Anyway. Let's move on. There's still the issue of team leaders to decide."

Charlotte remained silent for a while as the others talked. She was completely befuddled as to who this person was. But that wasn't the important part. Charlotte was really curious as to why there was such a big deal made over it, and why it was necessary of Impact to single Charlotte out as the member of her team.
So Charlotte just sat there in silence, trying not to show her confusion as the others spoke. "IMPACT! Stop trying to shame our support, especially when you're not in the same group! The organization saw fit to enlist her help for this mission. They trust her enough to have decide that she would be suitable for this team and she came after all! Her past conduct is not something to be summoned at a whim. You got better things to do with your time." Charlotte smirked a bit at that. Maybe if Impact decided to dig up files on them, as she suspected he would eventually, Renny could back her up. She didn't necessarily need someone to give her any support. She just thought that someone nice like Renny could get people to forgive anyone. 'Wait,' Charlotte thought, 'does that mean that this girl was once a former criminal?' Slowly Charlotte began to connect the dots and the realization of Shanon's identity dawned upon her. And she laughed aloud. She made no attempt to hide her amusement as she laughed at Shanon, as though someone had just told a really funny joke. It didn't even seem like she was laughing at such a morbid subject as she was. "That's hilarious," Charlotte said, still clearly amused. "So how is your boy friend doing, still in the hospital I suppose," Charloote said, forming a fake gun in her hands. Clearly Shanon had learned from their last encounter not to take Charlotte Beaufort lightly. Especially during a fit of psychosis. "I'm sure the two of us will get along greatly, no?" |

Impact stepped out of the way, let Charlotte take over. Perhaps it had been unwise to antagonize Shannon. She deserved it, certainly, and Pierce and Charlotte seemed to approve... but he was alienating Renny. He let himself be pulled aside, bent down so he was face-to-face with Renny, spoke quietly. "Upsetting you was... not my intention. And your sense of mercy and love is... admirable. But Shannon's past, that you are so willing to forget, includes her using pokemon for her own purposes, terrorizing helpless individuals with power gained purely through ownership of pocket monsters. And for that, I feel disdain for her. If she truly does prove herself, does good by society, then I will forgive her, and I will apologize. But until then, she's still the trainer I fought, who was trying to rob the bank out of greed. It was immature to express my disdain the way I did, you're right. But after what she's done, and what she would've kept on doing had we not caught her, I cannot think of her as I would think of, say, you or Pierce."
This was actually pretty close to the truth, he realized, thought not entirely sincere. He was completely honest about his seeing her differently than Pierce or Renny (he had come to recognize the latter two, and the rest of the team, as potential, if unwitting, allies) and when he said that it had been stupid to let his hatred influence his short-term actions. The rest was bullshit, but he hoped Renny wouldn't pick up on that. |

"I haven't forgotten, but her past don't matter to me now. We could use her help and making her feel like a criminal or a victim in our company won't help us or make her want to help us. Keeping an eye out on her current conduct is understandable and it's the right thing to do, but we aren't the ones to judge her. She is on probation and she is already undergoing the punishment for her actions. If the only thing that we do is punish those who make mistakes, how can anyone stand by our side? Could you understand the feeling of being meant to be punished for a wrongdoing, but being offered a second chance instead? Keep your caution and your insight, I think its your strength... but I think there are ways of dealing with people like her that would better help us... and if she is sincere, it'll help us all."

Simply put, I find Shannon's company, even when antagonized, far more comforting then others who have been on the team for longer.
He left the poorly veiled comment at that. Normally he'd stay out of arguments like this but he was curious to see how the team would react. It was also a good way to gauge their relationship's with each other and to see what conclusions they would jump to. His comment finished he relaxed against the wall and watched the result with an expressionless face. It was taking all his willpower to stop himself from smirking. |

"I... understand, I think. And like I said, I shouldn't have expressed what I felt. But I still feel it. Because a lot of people will remind us that, whatever the crime, the criminal is still human." He began speaking more quickly, more animatedly. This came close to what he felt. "They encourage empathy. Ask us to feel their pain. And that is well and good. But few, if any, ask us to feel the victim's pain, remember those who were hurt." He sighed. "Let us leave it at that. Consider my point, I will consider yours." He nodded to Renny, returned to stand near Pierce, now started speaking to him. "Regarding leadership..." He was interrupted by Matt's comment. Turned to him, still smiling. "It's only been one mission. Give us time. We'll make our way into your heart. Or at the very least, your mind."
