Windows Password Help

Ok, so this past week I got my dad's old computer and he forgot the password to log in to windows since he hasn't done it in almost a year. Do any of you guys know of any way to recover that password without having to crash the computer back to the system defaults? It runs on Windows XP if that helps anyone. Also, it is an IBM computer. I don't really know much about the system specs since I can't get on Windows to check em but any and all help will be greatly appreciated!

If he hasn't logged into it in over a year, what's wrong with formatting the drive and starting clean?

If he needs a file off of it then I suggest using a Linux live CD and then grabbing what ever you need off of the disk and then reformatting.

Also, I do know of a Linux kernel tool that resets windows passwords although I couldn't tell you the name of it. It was demonstrated in a class I took a year ago so I know it does exist, but fuck if I can remember what it is called.

Well, I'd like to keep all the programs on there cause formatting it means I'll lose microsoft word and etc among other little easter eggs.

Thats why we've got uTorrent, I bet you could replace all five terabytes in like a day.

I do know a tool named Windows Login Recovery. It is used for Windows password recovery. Maybe this tool could help you.
