So far I've only heard rumors of an Evangelion movie, but it's only hearsay. But what I've heard scares me.

-Hillary Duff as Asuka
-That kid from Harry Potter as Shinji

I'm in favor of anime based movie properties simply because it creates good press. Sure, the movie will probably suck, but so do movies based on comic books, but they keep the comic book companies alive.

Look, I know anime isn't really in the same sad predicament as the comic book industry, but look at all the exposure lately in anime. The popularity of children's anime in america has shown an incredible increase in releases of all types of anime in the US (and maybe canada, UK, where ever you are.). We all know children's anime sucks, because its for children, but the exposure itself helps us. Just think if an anime based blockbuster came out? We'd have it made!

Also, I'd like to site that many media crossovers happen all the time, such as manga to anime, anime to manga, show to OVA, and so on. All that matters in these are that the characters are well represented, and that the spark the original authors put in is still there. Now, maybe hollywood won't butcher it.

Globalization baby, ya can't avoid it.

In Japan, where the true Anime is made, roughly 95% of Anime is aimed at people under the age of 18. Where you draw the line for 'child' is up to you, but in the legal term for both Japan and America, under 18 is Child. And not taking this into account, I can only assume that you meant child anime as Anime you deem is only viewable by children, watched primarily by people younger than teenagers or something that doesn't have guns or fighting in it. On all three counts, I say not only do I watch Anime that fit those discriptions, but some of my favorites are in that classification (Pita Ten, Princess Tutu) and shows you'd probably deem for children (CardCaptor Sakura). So, I hope I have proven to you that, with just once sentance, I can show that not only do I not aknowledge that all anime for 'children' sucks, but that you might not even know what you're classifying and really have little right to classify anything as being something everyone thinks sucks.

Sorry for off topic, but I had to say my say.

Right... sorry. My bad. Your right, most of anime is aimed at children, and I've probably watched some of that, so disregard certain parts of my previous post about that, though you will most likely find more idiotically wrong comments. Alright, I'm embarassed now.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that commercilization is good because it increases demand, so a movie based on an anime, no matter how bad it would be, would help out the anime community. I don't think that commercializism would affect the artists and their products, i.e. start to mainstream anime, because animes are basically foriegn films anyway that aren't completely dependant on the american market.

Oh yeah, sorry again.

Its fine.

And, I really don't want to keep killing your ideas, but while most times I would agree exposure and comercialization is good, it can be bad. Making bad movies based on Anime and even bringing over Anime itself in bad forms and showing them in theaters/selling them on VHS or DVD can do more harm than good. Where you deem the bad and good instances of released anime are up to you. I would give examples such as the horrible release of the Cowboy Bebop Movie and how I come across so many people who dislike the movie, while they praise the show as one of the best Anime ever made. That's gotta mean either the movie is bad....or it was introduced to them bad. I believe it was the latter, both because I think it is an amazing movie, because I believe it was the most well done part of the entire series and because most people were beforehand given a false impression of it. Its written right on the DVD: "They're Here To Save The Planet. But Not For Free" -Bandai included excerpt above the title on DVD Cover

I have had experience getting people interested in anime for years now, but there's been things I've shown a certain type of person that turns them off to Anime and those exact movies shown in exactly the same way grabbed other people instantly to liking anime. What I'm trying to say is...the idea that constant and large amounts of exposure will help the Anime market, even in a live action movie form is good, somewhat. The other portion of it would need to be how it is directed to the american audiance, with emphasis of marketing to multiple groups of people and for long term goals, neither of which are being done well if at all.

Yes, its my american anime distributor speech again. And how they're going to, in the long run, make Anime become less popular and economically profitable...because of their short run goals of just selling everything to get money quick out of it and targeting only a select group of people.

Anime in itself is an artform. Putting it into a real portreying sorta ruins it because certain things (overstatement of facial expressions ect.) are only funny if done in an anime style.
