Homestuck Mafia Sign-Up Thread
So Fenris and I are discussing the possibility of restarting NPF Forum Mafia as a forum game, if there would be sufficient interest. He's apparently thinking of creating an MLP: FiM Mafia game, which would be exciting.
My Mafia game is slated first, and it's Homestuck themed. The total number of participants will be flexible and will depend on interest. Regarding Signups: * Up to 25 people can sign up. I'm hoping for an absolute minimum of fifteen people but I won't be holding my breath. * Sign-ups are generally on a first-come, first-serve basis, but I reserve the right to give preferential treatment to people who sign up who are actually active NPF participants and who I personally recognize and trust. * Intimate knowledge of Homestuck is not necessary to join the Mafia game, but you may find it advantageous to at least read a few wiki pages about the characters and the storyline so you'll be familiar with some basic terms as they arise. * Generally speaking, you should only sign up if you're actually going to be around and have internet access over the next couple months. Brief daylong breaks of inactivity are certainly permissible but if you're taking any weeklong vacations without internet access anytime soon, I'd advise you to hold off. * If you're a Moderator you're welcome to join, but I expect you to not abuse Mod powers to learn information you'd otherwise not have access to. Also, I'm looking for a cohost, if you'd be more interested in that kind of a role. IN MAFIA: 1. greed 2. Moogle0119 3. Ryanderman 4. Fenris 5. Inbred Chocobo 6. Aldurin 7. Bard the 5th 8. Revolving Ocelot 9. Mr. Bookworm 10. Thadius 11. rpgdemon 12. Smarty 13. P-Sleazy 14. Lumenskir 15. Sifright 16. 17. There are two more open slots, if you'd like them. Signups officially close Saturday night. We'll say 10:00pm EST on July 16th.

For what it's worth, the only thing I can think of that we can do that would give any indication of who is or is not mafia would be the fact that we can see everyone who is online, regardless of invisible status, and can therefore see who is checking their PMs from whom in the "Who's Online" screen. However, none of us cares enough to keep track of what 25 or so people are looking at on the forums every second of every day for the next couple months, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Could you explain a bit more about the rules? I'm vaguely knowledgeable about them, but don't remember fully.

I did a lot of posting on here as a teenager, and I was pretty awful. Even after I learned, grew up, and came to be on the right side of a lot of important issues, I was still angry, abrasive, and generally increased the amount of hate in the world, in pretty unacceptable ways. On the off chance that someone is taking a trip down memory lane looking through those old threads, I wanted to devote my signature to say directly to you, I'm sorry. Thank you for letting me be better, NPF. |

Town: The majority of Mafia participants are town-aligned, or 'the good guys.' Their goal is essentially to eliminate all non-town aligned factions off the map. The primary method to do so is through the lynch, which occurs during the day. In fact, town vanillas can only participate through lynching. Their goal is to rely upon evidence of nightkills and day activity to justify lynching scum, and avoid lynching town. Town Power Roles: Variants of these differ depending on the theme of the game, but basically, town power roles are town-aligned folks who have additional powers beyond merely participating in a lynch. They may be able to kill at night (vigilantes), kill during the day (dayvigs), prevent a lynch (Mayors), protect someone from being killed at night (Doctors), decipher whether a person is 'guilty' or 'innocent' at night (Cops), or decipher clues that hint towards the identity of the person (flavor Cops.) There's also power roles with passive abilities, like the Bulletproof (who's immune to nightkills, but not to lynches) or the Double Voter (whose vote counts as two while he is alive.) Scum: 'Scum' is a broad term that, in practice, I've generally used to encompass all non-town aligned factions; other Mafia players tend to only to refer to members of the Mafiate as 'scum.' The Mafiate is the opposing faction that seeks to kill all townies. In addition to being able to affect lynches while pretending to be town during the day, the Mafiates can communicate privately throughout the day and the entire faction can select one person to die at night. Mafiate members may include the Godfather (who scans innocent by Cops despite being guilty), the Roleblocker (who selects a townie to prevent from being able to take a nighttime action), the Assassin (a single scum with an extra limited use kill), and the Silencer (who prevents one townie from speaking the following day,) etc. There's also potentially multiple scum factions; if there are two scum factions in a game, the scum factions oppose each other as well as town. Generally speaking, how many factions exist isn't revealed to the players. There's also unaligned independent factions such as the Survivor (whose goal is simply to live to the end) and the Serial Killer (who kills 1 person each night and who 'wins' if he's the only one left alive.) Days: During the 'daytime' (which lasts far more than a single day in practice), everyone can talk in the forum topic. Everyone tries to learn who scum is. Scum tries to mislead town and learn who the town's power roles are. Everyone can vote on a lynch target, and unvote (and change their votes) as many times as necessary. Once a majority of the surviving people vote to lynch a target, the 'day' ends. Nights: At night, no one can talk in the forum topic (but scum can talk privately among each other in a separate location, and Mason factions, if there are any, can talk too.) Scum and power roles PM their nighttime actions to me. Once night ends, I report what's happened to everyone (most notably, who died and what role the dead played.) The game goes on. Does this help?
