LOTR comic - need feedback
I thought I drop by and shamelessly plug my webcomic ... nahhh
My wife and I started this site about a month ago. We play MMORPGs and have started playing Lord of the Rings online. Since we both also read webcomics we decided to put those two pastimes together and finally make something of our own. So there we have www.lotrolife.com with not one but two webcomics going on simultaneously - one hand drawn (our friend draws it we paint it) and one made with in game screenshots. The response was ok so far but it's not the same when a random gamer drops you a line saying I like what you did on my favorite game - we need to hear how we can improve - and that opinion can only come from the pros. So flame away - but do check out the comic first www.lotrolife.com/comic/ if you don;t want to go through all the game related mumbo jumbo on the front page. |

Your dialogue needs improvement, and it seems to suffer from compression- the words are pixelated slightly, and you don't have any grammar in it. It seems nice enough besides that, but I need a bit more of a storyline hook to be drawn in.

Yeah, you might want to get a scripter or something - there's a serious lack of a hook in the first few comics, something to keep people coming back. Combine that with an overall clunky and very un-'real' dialouge and the comic itself is unappealing.
The art, however, is just fine. Work a bit on the scripting and we've got something good here. Oh, and also? www.blambot.com. Get a better font, that one's pretty unsightly.

Your comic has pretty good artwork, but I have to agree with the above comments. Your comic has nothing to draw people in and lacks a plot of its own. What is going on now is like walking into the middle of an inside joke, and not being an insider.

I must agree with you all on this. English is our second language so we are very careful with our sentences - they are neither bold nor too descriptive - too simple to be good maybe? At the same time, I must agree that the story is lacking and that comment about walking into the middle of an inside joke and not being an insider is very true. The first idea was to have a comic for the people that play the game Lord of the Rings Online. And I think they get the jokes much easier, but than again we have realized that is the wrong approach and that is not what we would really like. We sooo need to get our heads straight in that department and we are hurting pretty bad on that front.
These comments have been extremely helpful. I have never gotten such a good and quality advice ... like .... ever. Please - keep them coming. |

Inside jokes are fine, but even as someone who plays LotRO, I still feel like it needs something else. Fleshing out the characters might be a good idea (other than just "that one's an Elf, that one's a silly Hobbit"). Also, I'm jealous of the quality of the graphics you get to enjoy... I have to run my game on the lowest settings for my computer to process it. :shifty:
