I wasn't the slightest bit snarky when I was made the original post you all responded to, which merely elucidated that Crusader Kings II (a game I like, by the way, and one I'm usually more eager to defend) is saddled with a fair share of issues related to social justice concerns that might caution against its purchase.

Y'all then proceeded to react with:

I'm pretty sure that by that definition Civilization is also "socially unjust"

...And even after you expressed this initial round of, yes, holier-than-thou know-it-all bona fide snarkiness in response to my otherwise innocuous attempt to inform, I graciously proceeded to try to explain the specific substantive issues in a post or two without delving into name-calling.

Instead, y'all proceeded to attempt to prove me wrong and/or lecture me, with a continued flippant tone:

Yes, Bells, that last comment of yours I quoted was snarky and sarcastic and self-indulgent and uses wording that is at best completely unnecessary and at worst utterly dismissive.

And yes, by the time we had gotten that far -- by the time I had already elucidated in three separate posts my line of reasoning -- I finally gave in to temptation and decided to inject some snark because you were already tossing out your zingers at me for daring to suggest that a game I actually LIKE has genuine issues.

And no, I shouldn't have to justify every attempt I make to preface recommendations for videogames with a social-justice related disclaimer.
This is the kind of attitude and behavior that makes talking about issues like sexism and homophobia utterly impossible here at NPF.

Look, you're givin me too much credit for tryin to stir up shit. I agree that the mechanics of some aspects of the game are silly and illogical, and frankly downright stupid in execution. Trying to make sense why they made it so is the illogical part i was alluding to.

I am about 99.9% certain that Paradox's team had conversations about every trait they put in the game, how those traits would correlate and intertwine, and how best to balance their gameplay while retaining a semblance of historical authenticity. So no, I don't buy that their usage of homosexuality as a negative trait was "silly and illogical." I think if you'd ask a Paradox designer they'd come up with a litany of historical reasons -- mostly regarding past persecution of homosexuals -- to justify its inclusion.
They'd be wrong, but there are reasons why they were wrong in their approach that can be perceived and understood.

Any 'illogical stupidity' from Paradox in their game doesn't immunize the product from criticism, for that matter.
