Learned EXTRASENSORY!

I just did this! Simply due to avalibility, I watched it 1-2, 4-6, 3, and I suggest the original trilogy first for sure. Especially because it is crucial you drill into those kids heads that Vader is badass.

the whole Anakin to Vader thing was actually rather good in my opinion. You could see why he turned and all that. Except when he actually converted. In litterally a few minutes he went from "is the dark side really so horrible" to "yay lets kill all the children!"

I'll probably get warned by a mod, banned for a week, and catch some flac from EVERYONE for saying this buuuut....
I actually liked 3 better than any of the other movies. The acting in 4-6 was absolutely abysmal. Between Carrie Fischer's drug addiction and Mark Hamil's "acting", it's really a pain for me to watch. Harrison ford is the only saving grace in the 4-6 set, but if I want to see Harrison Ford, I put in Raiders of the Lost Ark, because Sean Connery is the shit! In 3, you get somewhat better acting (still not good, but better), better effects, better visual display, better fighting, and an explanation of the clone army (which always bothered me, that in episode 1, it was robots, and 6 it was real humans? Like, what?). (And better music. Really, there's this one theme where John Williams layers three different star wars themes at once, and then inverts it. It's INSAAANE!) Anyway, I do fully endorse watching it 4-5-1-2-3-6. Mainly because I think the combined angst and drama of 3 and 5 will just swirl up into this epic ball of hate and fury for Anakin/Darth Vader, and then it'll be ironic to just be like "Oh. Well, okay, I guess Ill be good now. Yeah. TAKE THAT MASTER. Oh shit, now I die. But I'm good. WHEEEEE"

the problem with the prequels is that Lucas is an Ideas Man, not a writer. The overarching plot of the prequels is epic and fantastic, but when you slide down to the level of personal interactions and conversations, the characters are more or less blocks moving through the motions. the originals were great because back then Lucas had enough humility to hire competent men to make his ideas into something fantastic, but when the prequels came around his ego was so big that he thought he could do everything himself.

And I really didn't like the fighting in the prequels. It was way too flashy. In 4-6 it always felt that it was a battle of wills, they were sensing each other with the force, waiting for an opportunity to strike. ANd it suited the supposedly defensive nature of Jedi rather than "YARRR! Attack his throat!" Also 3 despite being the best acted and best written of the prequels had to be far the worst. Why? Cause it had one main theme which was Annakin to Vader. And it was done terribly! Yar! Dark Side is bad! Let's kill children! I couldn't buy it at all. And seriously Hamill and Fischer are a million times better than Hayden Christensen. And when your main actor can't act, trouble approaches. It was not entirely his fault, it's hard to act with a terrible script, but still. |

Hmm, something that just popped into my head is the issue of what version of the originals you'll be using. I found the 'updated' version of 4 to be too jarring within the used future world it was going for (not even taking into account the nerdspasms the whole Greedo thing entails), but I happened to like the graphical touches they added to 5. For 6 I have no strong opinions.

I'm not too keen on the revised editions. Just seemed kind of pointless to me.
And I have no idea why they changed the Greedo scene. It's not like it's a scene they couldn't do originally |
