Honestly, the only reason I'd play this game is for the Job-System. I'm a huge Job-System fan. And about this being the only FF with mission based play...ever heard of FFTA? There's nothing in that game BUT missions!
Edit: That was supposed to be fan. DAMN this firewall. But, um, if I were a Job-System, I'd make the Lady Luck costume a must for all female characters. So nyah. Last edited by Ofi; 01-02-2004 at 10:24 PM. |

EVERYTHING MUST DIE!!!!!

I Hated FFX very very much. And, since it's my rule to play a game before judging it, I decided to actually try playing FFX-2. I've gotta tell you beforehand that the first impression I ever received about this game was from the commercials (which, in my opinion, made the game look to me like some really corny videogame with a sort of Charlie's Angels theme behind it). I've got to say...it lived up to my exact expectations. I played the game for about three or four hours before I got sick of the cutsiness, and the Tomb Raider moments don't pass. They still burn in my mind. At risk of exposing spoilers, I can't say them. The best thing about the game though is its gigantic job/class system, which was evidently what Square Enix was trying to make the highlight of the game. Or at least that's what I thought until I saw the actual pictures of some of the job/class costumes. SE did a fantastic job at rendering the girls in those costumes. Which makes me wonder if THAT was one of the top highlights of the game instead of storlyine and development.
The only purpose I can see FFX-2 serving as is a marketing ploy by Square/an attempt to add more closure to an already too linear and boring storyline with a huge job system and too much time spent on the stats, graphics, and sound of the game, and not enough on the stoyline and dialogue. And that's the end of my rant. Oh one last thing for humour. Quote:

DA-DA-DA-DAA DAA DAA DA DA-DAAAAAA!

I think FFX-2 was ALRIGHT. Not great, not horrible... but alright. It ranks down there though...
I've already played it through and now I'm getting the 100% done. I did like FFX alot (so I'm not biased against it), but here's a few of my problems I have with FFX-2 (keep in mind, they are just personal preferences and such) (Warning! Spoilers abound!) 1- Linear vs non-linear--- Unlike FFX, FFX-2 is very unlinear, letting you choose what sidequests you go on. The hitch: Almost ALL of the freaking side quests have nothing to do with the main story! I mean, it's all well and good to help somebody sell tickets to their show, but... couldn't they think of something with a little more substance for you to do? I wouldn't mind it as much if they gave you a sphere that was really worth looking at. 2- Villain--- Okay, I know there was a villain, but.... I personally like a villain that keeps coming back to torment your character, (not like leblanc and her crew though) not just some lost soul that you fight at the very end of the game, and end up helping! >_<;; I like having some of that mental anguish of being afraid of the villain and what he's going to do next or if he's going to trick me, I didn't get any of that in this game. 3- Money/Items/Ect--- There really is no need for money except for purchasing the occational items or helping O'aka pay off his debt (and then you can have unlimited money!). No armor or weapons to buy or even an INN to pay for! And basically everything you will need you'll be able to find. So what if you have 298,456 gil? There's absolutely NOTHING to use it on except for "spare change" in battle! 4- Dresspheres/leveling up--- I really did like this system. The classes were cool, but some of them you NEVER use! I could make it through the game just fine with only the warrior and the white mage dressphere. This isn't really something that's not that bad about the game, I just wanted to mention it. ^^; And when you're doing the 100% complete, you get really high levels... and NOTHING is really a challenge anymore. 5- Misc/random stuff I wanted to point out--- All of the sudden there's a cave that you never even hear about in the first game on besaid! Wow. How did that happen, since I searched everywhere for everything in the first game. -The gunner's gauntlet SUCKED beyond sucked! Getting the 100% complete, I had to beat Beclem's score and it sucked! The camera angles were the WORST! (did I mention that the gunner's gauntlet sucked? hehe( -Leblanc and her crew reminded my of team rocket. Did they remind you of team rocket anyone? Oh well. -Sphere break.... bleh. Just... bleh. -I'm kinda curious how Metal Gear-er, I mean Vegnagun got by, unnoticed by the heroes in the first game, while they were uncovering all of Yevon's secrets. ^^;; -They tend to make things seem more important than they really are. When they talked about the previous praetor of New Yevon being thrown out for trying to take too much power, I was like "Oooh. Could he possably be the villian sooner or later?" Nope! In fact, you hardly even hear about it again. -And I didn't like how they did some of the old characters, like Isaaru. He's just kinda fruity now, in my opinion. And Rin's a pimp! hehe. And Callie? I mean, you talk to her, what, once in FFX, why do they feel the need to bring her back? I can understand Isaaru and Dona and such, but Callie? Also, the ending I got kinda sucked. ^^;; It left too many things unanswered. (I'm still trying to figure out why the heck the aeons came back) I really hope the 100% ending is better and answers more. ;;; But honostly. Don't let all of those negatives make you think I absolutely hate it. (I just felt like ranting about something tonight. ) It's alright. I'm having fun playing it, so I guess that's all that matters, right? AND it has replayability! It's just not my favorite. The graphics were beautiful too, but I'm not one to be swayed by pretty pictures in a game. ^^; For once, I really do like the battle system, though, which is something that I don't usually specifically like about games. ^^ And I really like the 1000 words scene. It's a good game, but I just don't think it's up to par with most of the rest FFs. Maybe it's because it doesn't have that "get to know the characters" stage that most FFs have where I can connect with the heroes, maybe it was already having the airship, making travel boring? Maybe it was all of those way-too-girly quotes and quirks that made my stomach reel. Who knows. Maybe I'm picky. ^^;; But I did like Paine a lot. ^^ She was pretty cool. Rikku: Do you think we need a password? Paine: How about "Kick. Its. Ass." ^__^ (whew. I'm done ranting now. Please don't murder me now. ;;; )

Heh-heh-heh...I honestly thought, going in, that I would hate FFX-2 like poison. Still, I played it at Bezo's house, just because I like to hate things for a reason.
Then I started liking it, durn the thing! I think the reason that I thought I would hate it was rooted mainly in the skimpy outfits. A stupid reason, but there is more to it. For some reason, I got this idea that Yuna and Rikku's personalities would completely change to suit their clothes. I had terrible images of Rikku becoming one of those obnoxious women who aren't happy unless men are drooling over them and waiting on them hand and foot. Images of Yuna and Rikku doing ridiculous sexy poses and that even more ridiculous sexy-pout haunted my nightmares. I don't know what convinced me that their personalities would be altered and massacred, but it was a pleasant surprise when I started playing, only to find that Yuna and Rikku were still Yuna and Rikku, just in different clothes, and that Paine was a terrific character in her own right. Side-note: Brother rocks. Awesome character. He entertained me more than anything should. Leblanc also rocks, even if I don't know how to spell her name. I think they should hook up. CelesJessa - I agree. She and her crew reminded me overwhelmingly of Team Rocket. And faintly of Karsh, Solt, and Peppor in Chrono Cross. But much more of Team Rocket. The fact that the game is largely side-quests is appealing to a side-quest junkie like me, so I like it on that count, too. Although I agree that it would be insanely annoying to find out that you missed the five-second window in which you could complete a very important one. And handing out balloons dressed as a Moogle was fun, but a little fluffy, even for me. All in all, it seems like the game is more dedicated to pure fun than to the angst and gloom which permeated a lot of the other FF games. And to me, this is a welcome change. Still, I haven't played much. Maybe the novelty will wear off after a while. Even now, I agree that it's good, but not great.

I felt the need to register just to reply to this topic. Prepare to be onslaughted by an array of opinions based on my liking of X, and X-2. Let the ranting begin!
First off I have completed X, and X-2. I've seen the good and common ending for X-2. I had low expectations for X-2, not because I didn't like X but actually for the complete opposite. I liked X so much I couldn't really see this flashy sex appeal driven game that seemed like it was more for japanese chicks then the hardcore gamers (which I assure you most gamers are guys) to bring closure to the series. I was half wrong and half right. I love X. I felt it was greatly over looked. Even though X was a game that seemed like it depended on CGI and great graphics I felt its plot was awesome. Everything flows nicely, and you can feel the emotion. The voice acting and some of the dialogue was simly explained as "Cheese". But overall this was amazing. ***SPOILERS UP AHEAD FOR X*** When you find out Yuna is going to die, when shes going to have to sacrifice herself to defeat sin, Tidus' raw emotion is through the roof. I got quite a few tingles inside from that scene. Everything unravels so well, and your on a high when the small group of an over-hyped summoner and her guardians becomes a resistance against the odds. After that scene at Bevelle your at an everlasting Climax for the rest of the game. ***Ending Spoilers*** The sidequests are quite amazing, some tough, yet balanced enough to keep you busy. I loved customizing weapons, shear genious. ::My opinions about X-2:: I mentioned earlier I had low expectations, yet my shear craze about X gave me a hype to give it a try. I turned on the game, and the moment it turned on the energy of the game was bursting off the screen. That scene when they corner Leblanc and they do their intros is nothing short of insanely entertaining. I greatly disliked having an airship. It completely ****ed up the flow of the game. It was to choppy, being able to go anywhere you want from the start it was just...ackward. The game, although I am a sidequest freak, is way to dependant on them. It took me 30 hours (with lots of leaving the game on and not doing anything) to get through the game with 88%. About 20% was actual plot, the rest was nothing more then time killer and percent raisers. FFX kept you filled up on plot throughout the whole game, and like tradition sidequests came at the end. Blitzball...poor Blitzball. What have they done to you! Jesus christ, in FFX I was the biggest Blitz nut. I always had the most elite team, and sometimes I'd turn on FFX just to play blitzball. The fancy new font on the numbering does not compensate for what they did to blitzball. They turned the players into Red and Pink notches which are uncontrollable, and start you off with the biggest disadvantage imaginable. Blitzball...*sigh* Continuing on...The Dress spheres. God I love this system, but it does have flaws. I found myself arguing over what I would do next, I found that I was to dependant on keeping a dress sphere on until it was fully mastered. Of course if I started in with one sphere and didn't like it I stuck with it *cough* Giving Rikku Samurai Dress Sphere *cough*. Also, after I mastered Dress Spheres I found it pointless to use them again, so it was like it was all in vain. Ending (No Spoilers): God I loved this ending. The common ending kept me smiling the whole time. It was over and I was like "Hmm..that was cool but thats it?" Luckily I did what I had to do to get the Good ending. Now that was great. I found that it sealed the gate on the Final Fantasy X series. When Wakka yelled over what he did I could do anything but laugh. Great ending. >_O now I gotta see the perfect! Now I realize why the made the game why they did -_-... This might or might not be my last post depending on the upcoming posts but...yea thats the gist of it. Thanks for reading! EDIT: One more thing! The Soundtrack: Wow FFX's soundtrack leaped over X-2s and shot it in the back of the head. They killed X-2's music. Why? Nobuo wasn't in it. FFX's music, whenever I replay it always gives me a tingly feeling. There just wasnt enough memory by connection of music. --X Last edited by Mega Man X; 01-03-2004 at 01:02 AM. |

I have X and X-2, but I haven't finished X yet so I'm waiting to start X-2. Also, I am at the point where undead Seymour has kidnapped Yuna and plans on marrying her, and after a boss fight with monsters on the ship, I assume I'll be going to save her. How far along am I in the game?
NOTE: I have heard vague things about how FFX ends but not entirely what happens, so I haven't read the rest of the thread, just posting my status on FFX-2, which is not yet started...
