Hey, awesome! I hope you enjoy HL2. Although if you do like it, I hope I get points for when you inevitably buy the two sequels/expansions Episode 1 and 2 (they're full-length games with improved controls and fantastic gameplay, so calling them expansions doesn't do them justice). They pick up the storyline seconds after the previous installment ended. You'll want them. Trust me.

Mount&blade is a fun sandbox medieval rpg/fps. (especially with mods)

Also I have to disagree with Mauve whilst episodes 1 & 2 are worth the purchase they really aren't full games. They have less than 4 hours of game time unless you get lost.

As for playing Dungeon Keeper 2 you could always run an old version of windows on a virtual machine it's what i do for my old games.

Someone was doing a new game that's basically a Dungeon Keeper 2 clone. I'll try and rustle up the name.

Found it, the guy's who did Tropico 3(also on Steam and totally worth a look, most fun Banana Republic simulation ever) are doing a new game called Dungeons which is basically a big old tribute to Dungeon Keeper. Unfortunately it's not dropping til next year, but being a PC game it's likely to be on Steam when it does come out.

Barnacles are simply punishment for gamers never looking up, according to Valve.

Poison headcrabs, on the other hand, just exist because they find your blind panic hilarious.

Personally, I'm thinking we should have told Fifth to play the original HL before the sequel. They still sell that on Steam, don't they?

Just checked, they do. $10. He really should have take care of that first, so much more atmospheric.

Ok, no. I use the crowbar, though. As long as there's no other enemies in range, they really aren't very dangerous. And unless you somehow blunder into an ambush of crabs and zombies, you should be able to kill the other stuff, and then take on the poison ones.
But that's just an aside.
