The Blog Thread is Stupid
You may as well ban posting links. What good would it do if you post a link in the blog thread, piles of other links follow up on it, no one comments on the site you linked, and it is just disregarded because no one who is interested in it can find it?
When you advertise for a site, you should be able to get people's attention. How many people actually look at the blog thread? We all have better things to do. |

No one wants to read a thread that consists of "Hehe, cool site" repeated twenty times over in different variations either. And we're not keen on people making threads just to advertise a site. I could link every word in that sentence to a banned account as proof.

You've managed to push a few of my buttons since you've been here. I'd suggest that if you have a complaint, you don't act like a retard by posting it publicly and whining like some 6 year old child who doesn't get enough attention. Act intelligent, mature, responsible, before you end up pissing the mods off too much and being shown the door.
The blog thread is there for the reason that Meister said. There's no need for full discussions on each link posted. If you don't like it, then go somewhere else. We've lasted this long with it and we'll continue to last long after you've left.

If I were to PM you about it, you would have given me the same answer and that would be the end of it, but if I post it here it can actually be discussed a little more than a moderator saying "Were not changing it"; and by discussed, I do not mean Mods VS Admiral Kelly.
The blog thread is there because some people do not know how to moderate a forum. If the moderators would only imply existing rules other than the "links go in blog thread" rule than the spam produced by the undescriptive links would be squashed quite easily. Some people want to post non-trash links to places and be noticed rather than post it in an ineffective blog thread thus having it buried on top of hundreds of links. |

But we aren't changing it. That's the whole point. You can discuss it at great length - this thread is open, after all - but the outcome will very likely be the same. (And there's also the fact that no one else seems to care.) Try to see the Blog thread as something like the Funny Pics thread, only for links.
Besides, people will notice if there's a new post in the blog thread. It does show up, just like in any other thread. |

Additionally, are you insinuating that we don't know how to moderate a forum which we've been moderating for over 4 years and is one of the friendlist most spam-free and accepting forums for a website of this much patronage?
Keep at it, Admiral Kelly, and you're gone. I'm not going to sit here and by insulted by some punk who think he knows better. NPF is not a democracy. This is the United States of Brian Clevinger. He's the president, prime minister, king. You are the upstart peasant. Lastly, we don't want eight hundred thousand threads each dedicated to a single website. That's why the fucking blog thread exists. We already had that problem. You are more than welcome to go join any number of forums that will allow you to discuss your favorite cross fairy princess pony / dragonball Z doujinshi site. But at this forum, it goes in the blog thread. Q.E.D.

against my better judgement, i'm gonna speak up here. only because i don't want this to seem the "mean ol' mods" are picking on the Admiral. instead i think its important that it be known that it is in fact the members share these opinions.

look, its not like theres an absolute ban on links. if you have something relavant to a discussion, you can still post links and shit. what the mods don't want is waste valuble server space on one line threads and spam. if you honestly want feedback on your site then post in on the blog thread and ask people to PM you. i personaly won't be checking out your forums, because i have no intrest in them. an effect of the NPF is that i find every other forum chaotic and unenjoyable.

I feel like a fool for replying to this, but I think it sounds like you are only complaining because you just plain don't like the mods here and are trying to give people headaches.
People DO look at the blog thread, and if they find a site they like, they can save it on their favorites. It also sounds like you've only just glanced at the blog thread, but it's not onle people advertising their own sites. A lot of it is people trying to share sites they enjoy with others. And if people were to all reply to each and every site there would be very long lists of posts consisting of almost all "that rocks" or "that sucks". I've looked at a few of your posts on other threads, and alot of them have things relating to "the mods are evil." look, I don't know how old you are, but you're acting like a child who isn't getting a cookie from his parents. Do you act this way around your parents? or the police? re-enactment: cop- I'm sorry sir but you can't rob this bank Ad_Kelly-but I want to rob this bank! I'm going to post a news article about how unfair police are in not letting people rob banks! that might be a little harsh, but that is what you are doing. If you are so against the mods here then leave. quit spreading your negativity.

Admiral Kelly, what did I tell you about constructive criticism? We've been over this before, and I was quite pleased, as I was led to believe that you had taken the message to heart. It appears I have been deceived, and for that, I am crestfallen.
It was kind of you to offer to help us do our jobs, but once again you leave the construction out of the criticism. "The Blog Thread is Stupid" is not an appropriate or endearing way to bring an issue to our attention. Something along the lines of, "Hey Guys, Look, I Have a Great Idea!" or "Hello, Friends! Let Me Suggest This!" or simply "Problems With the Blog Thread" would've been infinitely better. Additionally, insulting our competence does not make us more likely to listen to you. Surely you must realize this. As the others have explained, there's a reason why we don't allow or want thousands of threads started up for every Awesome Link you find. If you're hurt that we're trouncing on free-loading adspammers, I'd be more than happy to forward you the contents of my email inbox. Please let me know. If you'd like to politely suggest an alternative to the Blog Thread, my PM box eagerly awaits you. |

The blog thread was created for a reason. its not like the mods said 4 years ago when starting this place up was
Mod1 "well...how to get rid of spam...how?" Mod2 "i know lets just create a thread dedicated to it!" Mod1 "That sounds FANtastic. I call it, 'The BLOG thread'. Damn my ingenuity" Mod2 "but i suggested it" Mod1 "but i coulda shot it down!" No. They must of had a SEVERE problem with the Forum being filled with these kinds of threads devouted to a single link and only getting maybe, MAYBE, 4 or 5 replies to it before it fell into inexistence. The Blog Thread is there to save on server brandwith which Brian has to pay for (god bless him). If it werent for Brian and his ability to pay for the Server Brandwith we would have no forum. this topic would be nonexistant. Non of us would have had the pleasure of meeting eachother and having reasonably intelligent discussions. This is a place for us to talk to people, share our views, and get help with computers and many other subjects and not have to worry about getting flamed or harrassed by other members. If you want to ruin such a good thing, then i suggest you do as Shiney says or show yourself the door before one of the mods does it for you. Anyway. if you arent appreciative of the blog thread. theres always your signature. Use yours like Rai used heres. PLACE A LINK TO THE SITE YOU WANT TO ADVERTISE. atleast that way youre not wasting thread about it and its in ALL your posts.
