Dream Games.
What would you dream game be like? What would you do in it? What are it's main features? Share your ideas here. Here's mine:
My dream game would be an FPS of sorts. It would be single-player and is centered around a medium sized area, about the size of a small town. Most games that have a base you're either use it for saving at only or are teleported to after each mission then teleported to your next one, My mod would have a home. You drive from there to the next mission then drive back after you've finished. It's your house, well, your's and your teammates. You and your teammates aren't Rainbow 6 or the SAS. They're freelancers, kinda. You get hired to kill people. You not offcially assocated to anyone. The game would start off with some stardard missions in which nothing much happens storyline-wise and then goes into a big storyline of which I haven't thought up yet, but they're would be a good/evil choise for each mission. For Example: A new Mayor for the town has been elected, but politics in this town don't go down too well. The rival party want the elected party leader dead. You can either go with the rival party and kill him and recieve money from them, or you can take the job from the elected party and try to defend him. Either way, you're not allowed to kill any innocent people because you'll A) have the police after you and B) it will attract bad publicity to your team then people won't want to hire you as often. There would be multiple ways of going about every mission. Keeping with our example mission: If you went with killing the man, you could either set up a sniper in the opposite building or you could mingle in the crowd, then pull out a small, discreat weapon like a pistol or a throwing knife and plug him. However, there's guards. The elected party hired some other group to defend the leader of the party. But you already knew that, Didn't you? Would they just leave him unprotected because they couldn't hire your team? No. There would also be other team much like your's. They all have strenght's and weaknessess but the game won't tell you. You have to compile and write your own notes and get pictures to make your own "User's Guide to Other Teams". You can use any source you want to find out about them, you can note your own experiences against them and use digital camera's to take pictures of them, you can watch the news on TV in your house, you can walk down to the local newsagents and buy a newspaper. You can follow them back to their house and plot on your map. And then come back at night to break in to steal their "User's Guide to Other Teams", Guns or just to hurt them. Ah yes, the killing and hurting of other teams. Aside from normal "You get hit, you take damage", you can't really die die. Ofcourse when your health hits zero you keel over and kick the proverible bucket, it doesn't signal game over. The ingame clock fast-forwards a week, you arrive outside the hospital where your team will come to drive you home. You're told you should rest for 3 whole days (Yeah, people heal fast in this town). Just aslong as you don't get shot at all (because that will Game Over you) you're allowed to do whatever you want. You can continue to compile your notes in your Guide Book or you could drive down to the local video game shop and buy a game to play while you recover. You can still go to the mission with your team, but be the driver. While you're doing the missions, there's a living, breathing town around you and things happen. While you're driving do to the shops to buy a newspaper, a car chase between a bank robber and a police car could be taking place. You could help one of them out. You could knock the robber's car into a tree and hope the police give you a commendation on helping them and hope they give you some money. Or you could nudge the police car into some oncoming traffic and hope the robber gives you a cut of the money. But he might not, he might try to kill you, he could give you half the money, he could give you ten pounds. If things don't go your way, you could cap his ass. But then you would have the money and the police after you. You can try to hide the money, or ditch it in the town's lake or just turn the money into the police. The police might let you off, if you don't do too much damage to their cars. They could still give you a little money because, in the end, you did kill the thief. But they could also put you in prison because, in the end, you did kill the thief. All the shops would work. If you was connected to the internet while your playing the game, the shops would update with new items to buy from the ingame shops with your ingame money (I hate games that charge real money for items). You could download/buy new maps for that game you bought (Along with a modem to gain access to real internet games aginst people). You could make textures for wallpaper in your house which would then be available for other people to buy. In games that allow you to free-roam in between missions, I have always found one tihng strange. You can take as long as you want. In Final Fantasy X, you could go around as much as you liked before you went to fight the final boss. Would an evil villain wait for the Heroes to attack before smiteing them and finishing his evil plan? Not in the real world. So in my game, if you don't defeat the villain, he will go ahead and try to destory the town. It wouldn't end the game if you don't beat him time, the plan would take a while to finish. About 3 in-game days time. It would still be possible to defeat him, it would just be a bit harder. That will teach you for not getting your finger out of your arse. You have to plan things in advance. Most of the missions wouldn't take place untill a day or twos time. This would give you enough time to do things in preparation for the mission. If you wanted to record the mssion in the hope to get some info for the Guide, you would have to go down to the hardwear store, buy some cameras, drive to the mission destination and install them and test them. And the recover them after the mission. You could also get/steal blueprints for a building if you was requiered to break in and steal something or you could (if it's a public building) go in at daytime and jott down notes of the place.

My dream game?
An Arsenal game (the DC character.) It would be third person, and feature a melee system, but also a more prominent shooting system. Within this, there would be a use for all four shoulder buttons. One for lethal attacks, one for non-lethal attacks, one for situational attacks (like shooting a support and dropping barrels) and one for multiple attacks (like firing three arrows at once.) While I doubt it will ever be made as Arsenal isn't a big license, it could be a very fun game.

My dream game...
How about a Halo 2 patch that boots people from the game for suiciding, or using the Charged Plasma Pistol/Battle Rifle combo? El Rant, ahem... I don't really want much else in gaming. I already have Halo for multiplay, halflife for single play, Devil May Cry 3 for action, FFX, Xenogears, and all the others for RPGs...Do I need anything? How about a GOOD Matrix game? *prays vigorously*

Actually, I came up with a terrific Idea about a game where you were ripped out of your body by a scientific psychic force, and had to use your newfound ability to possess people to topple a shadowy research project. I was going to call it, Agent Geist.
And you know what? A good 3 years after I had written down the plot, and game mechanics, and had actually planned to send it in to some game publishers, Nintendo announces a new game for the gamecube. Know what it was called? Geist. Know what you can do in it? Possess people. Know how similar the game mechanics are to my own designs? Curseworthily similar. The only difference I could see is that in my idea, You found a new body shortly afterwards, and you used it as a hub, so you didn't find yourself surrounded by aggressive forces and unable to possess anyone to recharge your health. (even that mechanic was used in the game...I swear, it's as if my gamecube has a built in wireless camera...) It was little child that was brain dead due to the event that ripped you out of your body, and was unable to wield weapons and was incredibly fragile. And you couldn't travel far without it for safety reasons. It would add to a stealthy gameplay, like: You play as the child, and hop into a ventilation shaft that no adult could fit in. When you find another open vent that overlooks a hallway, you leap down and conk out a guard, allowing you to possess him. In this guard's body, you strap your previous body to your back, and avoid other guards until you find a locker to stash the kid's empty body. You then take the guard and through means, get to a control room and unlock several important doors. This sets off alarms and as the guard you make a distraction and mow down the other guards. When your guard is killed, you have to leave immediately or he'll take you with him to the great beyond. You then can then fly undetected back to the locker, climb out as the kid, and walk with ease through those doors, as every guard has headed to that control room to take care of their "friend". Oh well, I'll still buy the game, and maybe they'll let me put in my story ideas if they make a sequel.

An MMORPG where *gasp* leveling is actually fun. Perhaps require you to come up with strategy. Each monster requires a different strategy, and we're not talking "use the lighting spell instead of the fire one. Duurrrr-herrrr" Make it actually hard to kill them (this would also make teaming up more useful), and them give you exp to reflect their difficutly. Make it so that its not really how powerful your skills(spells, abilities, whatever) are, but how you use them that matters. Even low level monsters should be able to kill you later on if you're not paying attention.
This keeps you from going around mindlessly attacking things, which is horribly boring. Skill based gaming, rather that time consuming gaming. I haven't played many MMORPG's, I'll grant you that, so is there one out there I've just overlooked? Tell me, damnit. Last edited by MasterOfMagic; 08-17-2005 at 08:14 PM. |

An awesome RTS game where individual battles were fought out via FPS or Turn-based combat.
Rise of Nations meets Halo

An action-adventure game, maybe with RPG elements, with a world so vast and so complex that it would take months of play to do most of it.

Play one of the better MUDs.
Then again, those are texted based, and I have a feeling most people's dream games would involve outstanding graphics. Oh well. My dream game would be a Gundam MMORPG. Preferably areas of every kind of environment. Then, I would prove exactly why Gundam Seed mobile suits would own Gundam Wing's. |

Link-a-roony, Unca Scrooge! Its called Natural Selection, and is pretty damn fun. Kinda like Counter-Strike meets AVP2 meets a RTS game.
