CD/DVD Drive woes..

I have a Pioneer 16x DVD combo drive and an LG 52x CD burner, and lately they have been screwing around with me.. For instance, when trying to play a DVD movie, the DVD drive somehow tells me it is now a CD-Drive, and vice verce..

While trying to read on both drives they fuck up, trying to back up data to disc is god-damn impossible. I know it's the not the hardware, it has to be a software problem. How can I fix this problem without reformatting?

Also, a rather silly solution, but have you tried plugging one out? It may or may not fix something... But I'd rather take my chance in the thread I linked to, if I were you. I'm no pc-expert...
