Gundam SEED/GS Destiny
So, i've just finished watching the entire Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED Destiny serieses. I personally thought they were the best ones out of all the Gundam serieses. The action throughout the whole run was done very well. The non battle sequences were captivating enough to keep me drawn in. As for gripes...
Gundam SEED: -Too many recap episodes. -The ending left me thinking "So what now? Is that the end?" Gundam SEED Destiny: -Like GS, too many recap episodes. They're just plain annoying. -The ending of the series was pretty much the same thing as the first one. They busted in and stopped the big cannon from destroying an entire country on earth, and the chairman of PLANT gets shot. They really could have come up with something better than that. -So what happened to Shinn and Lunamaria? Did everyone leave them there on the moon surface to rot and die? No, seriously, what happened to them? Those gripes aside, I still think GS and GSD are the best gundam serieses out there. For those of you who have seen them, what did you think of them?

Spoiler: Shinn and Lunamaria were picked up by Athrun.
I am annoyed by the second half of GS and most of GSD (though, I'm glad they brought Mu back to life, but then again I'm an acknowledged fanboy). However, because of how the characters and the story were handled, being a fan of Mecha in general, and the Mobile Suit universes in particular, I found myself loving both despite all the reasons to hate them. At the very least, it wasn't G Gundam. |

The unfortunate thing with Gundam Seed, among other things such as taking the best of previous Gundam series, and making characters so surface-thick so as to disregard anything that made it's forerunners enjoyable to watch - is the robot designs - a series of distorted and somewhat lame devolvement of mechanics, which are quite obviously taken from Gundam X and the adn the Gundam Formula91 movie, both of which are regarded as being some of the worst series in terms of Gundams. Gundam Seed's designs are tiresome, repetitive, and unnecessary. Destiny's new inclusion of designs based on the original series are merely salt in the wounds. By taking popular designs by Ookawara, and deforming them, it takes away from the original series. The Gundams themselves are altogether uninteresting, equally as sad as their pilots, none of whom I have seen from Seed or Destiny as holding a candle to characters from several Gundam series in the past, that despite animation limitations - nearly seemed real - they were more than just rudimentary stereotypical character archatypes. It was a time when story was the most important and not simply repetitive action sequences or ampt up computer animation.
The animation of the character designs was sinful - seemed to go from vinilla to MILF further place Destiny and it's predecessor near the back of the Gundam pack. "Prettiness" is not a necessity for characters in Gundam series, part of the reason they made the worlds of previous series seem more real. It's saddening, but Destiny is actually far worse than Seed - it was the replacement of actual character growth with simply reveiling a new mobile suit every other week that's it's worst crime by far - In the end all the characters played the same role from the previous series that had established, but with shiney looking new suits which simply overload the show. /rant.

I enjoyed Seed-well, what I saw of it anyway.
I've only seen a few of the episodes, as I was gone every other time they were aired.
