His Dark Materials Trilogy Movies
I heard The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass (by Phillip Pullman) are all going to be movies soon. I really liked the books, but personally I think its almost imposible to make good movies out of them. You would need an AWESOME director, and there is still too much left to the imagination in the books that could not be portrayed in film without dissapointing millions. Also, I'm scared it'll be come like the Harry Potter movies. Just because the main characters are kids, doesn't mean the movie is intended for that age group. I hope thats not what happens to His Dark Materials.

Since you don't figure it out until the second book, this is now considered a spoiler:
Its about a quest to kill god.

Very good books, and I think they could be done well. With good special effect and good acting-which won't happen. The chances of finding more than one GOOD child actor in any given movie are like a million to one.
And I don't know what was wrong with HP-I'm not a big fan, but I though the movies were pretty good representations of the books. And there was more than one good child actor-quite an anomaly.

You're serious right? You're not screwing around with me are you? Because if you're lying and these movies don't get made, I will hunt you down.

I heard something about them being made into movies too. But I agree that they'll be hella hard to produce. We're talking about something that will require incredible reserve and vision to produce, even greater than Jackson's in the creation of LotR. Its one of those things where even a little thing like making one character comic relief, or making the familiars look even the slightest bit cgi, and the entire movie will suck. Not to mention the political pressure that will be applied to completely change the plot (for instance, make god missunderstood rather than evil). In fact, I am rather suprised their making this movie considering it will probably be banned every southern state. Giving it a hollywood ending would be, well, as bad as when they did it to Scarlet Letter. It'll completely ruin the entire message, destroy the tragedy. I really can't see it not sucking, but I could be suprised.

I agree, the golden compass had a very tragic ending, and I fear that a movie may not even begin to be able to do it justice.
But... we can hope they turn out well, can't we? And I assume any movie that's made will have Pullman taking a big part in the creative process and execution.
