Half-Life 2 Episode 1 Thread
Oh, that wacky Dr. Freeman and his crazy antics! Oh well, his misadventures provide us with more fun stuff to play.
How far is everyone? I finished it. Ha ha. |

I've been thinking of getting it, but I'm not sure if its worth it. How long is it, time wise?

I'm so dumb. Still haven't beaten half-life 2. I'm really behind with this shiz. After being entrenched in the HL community I just...I don't know. Let it escape me. Requirements + using a friend's account = me not playing so much...
But I'll see what I can do. I gotta play through it. I fuckin' love Half-Life. How could I not? Otherwise, what were your impressions?

I've just finished it, and it leaves you with a weird feeling as it shows you the trailer the trailer for Episode Two straight after. I WANT MORE DAMMIT!

It took me about seven hours, but I'm the kind of guy who's really cautious and makes sure he's picked up all of the ammo avaiable to him.
Darn fun while it lasted, though. They noticably improved the AI; Alyx was doing some pretty cool stuff. The parts I loved: The section I refer to affectionately as "Shotgun Zombie Hospital", the fight with the gunship in which the entire room is destructable, the cat-and-mouse strider fight near the end, and the introduction of the zombine. Hey, I thought Alyx's joke was funny. |

For all thoughs put off by only four to six hours of content, it also comes with Lost Coast (A short section that was cut out of HL2, only lasts thirty minutes though. It was VALVe's interactive tech-demo showcaseing the new HDR effects and Commentary system (Which I will have fun with when they bring out the commentary SDK in my future maps))
Half-Life Deathmatch: Source, which is Half-Life 1's deathmatch with Source effects like lovely water and rag-dolls, which look horibly out of place against the low-ploy models and textures. I don't know why VALVe bothered, wait for Black Mesa: Source instead. And Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, which may or may not support mods. I don't know if mods can function without vanilla Half-Life 2, but seeing as most (if not all) props and materials are in Episode One, I don't see why they can't work (but don't hold my word on that) In all, I found Episode One to be more enjoyable than vanilla Half-Life 2. I felt a bit lonely in Vanilla and the vehicle sections (which are lacking in Episode One, but are not missed) dragged on a bit, but should still be played all the same, as Episode One won't make any sence.
