Baby monitor device picks up NASA signals.
Saw this on Yahoo's headlines.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070614/..._monitor_space Apparently this woman's baby monitor is picking up black-and-white video images from the shuttle Atlantis for some unknown reason. Scientists are baffled, as they can't figure out where the heck it's picking up the signal from or why. My ideas? 1) The monitor was bored of watching a stupid baby and decided to see what else is going on. I mean, if you were a baby monitor, would you rather spend your time staring at a drooly baby, or checking out what's going on in outer space? 2) The baby who is supposed to be monitored by said device is an evil genius who is attempting to take over the Atlantis as soon as he figures out all its secrets. Or maybe he's one of those astronaut-stalker people. He IS wearing diapers... 3) Aliens did it. *cue Twilight Zone music* Pretty weird/amusing, either way.

I vote they dropped it and its frequency got bumped into the right range to pick up the signal. Kind of like how some people get radio signals in their fillings or braces. It just has to resonate in the correct range.

I think this just proves that NASA is run by children.

Russian spies are going to flood the stores, looking for baby monitors to spy on NASA. TERROR ALERT ORANGE!! |

Could just be that they are on the same signal. I know my cellphone can pick up calls between another pair of phones. Which tends to get annoying, since the last time that happened, it was the Fraternal Order of Police calling some woman prolly trying to get a donation...

Yeah, my car radio is always picking up cellphone conversations or something. It might be some trucker's CB or something, too. But regardless, it is not too weird for something to pick up video images by accident if audio is so easily tapped.
But yes, this is probably kind've humbling for the government, as I assume stuff like NASA transmissions are encrypted and top secret and all that jazz. Unless they don't really care when it comes to NASA.

I mean, come on...their fixing the space station. Why the heck should that be top secret and encoded? And, technically, it shouldn't be too surprising...a baby montior is just a reciever...and in this case, it happened to be on the same frequency.
