Default We all love Cardcaptor Sakura!

Seeing that many people in here actually love this series and are not closet about it, I thought it would be nice if we all kept it simple and showed our love for what is Regulus Tera's best anime/manga series of the nineties™ due to the fact that Evangelion alienated everybody everywhere.

So what's to like about Cardcaptor Sakura? She's an elementary schoolgirl. With magical powers. But instead of you far-too-common Sailor Moon crap and nude-transformation sequences you have a girl that pretty much acts and behaves like a normal person would at that age, without the amount of fanservice that the lolicon generation has created among characters like her. More importantly, she kicks arse. Major arse. She's battling these forces of nature and magic created by an ancient wizard called Clow Reed, and it's her job to capture them in cards to maintain balance in the world.

The series, however, is much more complicated than that. What makes it stand out from all the magical girl fetishism are the characters, which not only are incredibly well developed during the course of the series, but also very likable so that you end up being concerned about their fates. From Tomoyo, Sakura's best friend and amateur (read pro) cinematographer to Syaoran, Sakura's rival, you pretty much will find someone who you can identify with at some point.

That said, Cardcaptor Sakura doesn't dwell in melodrama at all. It has its heartwrenching moments for sure, but they are never too much of the focus to transform it into the emo garbage that permeates so much anime these days, especially CLAMP's other works.

The impression it gives at the beginning may put some of you off. After all, it is a girly series, and consequently it has its fair amount of romance and love triangles, although they are subtle and never become cringe-worthy. If you are like that, please, please give it a try. It's absolutely worth it, so much that you will just have to awwwwwwwwwww at pictures such as this:

So now that introductions are finished, first question: was Syaoran's affection for Yukito censored in the Unitamated Statez? Same thing for Toya's relationship with that albino guy.

I've only read a few volumes of the manga, and watched the OP and ED videos of the anime version on youtube, but believe the hype; Cardcaptor Sakura is simply magical.

It's cute, funny, cute, has excellent artwork, cute, heartwarming, cute, has superb characterizations, and did I mention it was cute? After reading my first volume of CSS, my initial reaction was, "Finally! A shoujo series that doesn't suck balls!"

I am prepared to purchase the entire manga series once I have the money. Oh sure, people might think I'm a "pussy" for owning something like CSS, but I don't care! I love Cardcaptor Sakura!

And Tera, you forgot to mention my favorite character, Kero! He is the greatest magical sidekick ever!

The only reason I could think of why someone couldn't like CSS was if they hated cuteness. However, only someone evil could hate cuteness. So, yes, if you hate CSS, then you're evil. Stay away from me.

Default Rayearth is far better, anyway.

You probably shouldn't come too close to me, then.
Though "hate" is certainly too strong a word, most of this series and CLAMP I don't bother with.

I like Rayearth and I like it a lot, but God it is depressing. Just like in every other CLAMP's work, the relationships end up being either one-sided or one of the characters gets maimed or tortured so badly that it all becomes a tearfest. Whereas, in Sakura, the sad moments are always surpassed by the sheer happiness it radiates, especially from the second movie (one of the few instances where I think the anime is superior to the manga).

Brought over here from the other thread because I feel I'm more likely to get a response AND cause less spam this way:

What the hell is up with you people and Cardcaptor Sakura? Seriously? Did it like start getting super awesome to the max after the first season or something? Because I watched most of the first season (missing episodes here and there, admittedly) and, while I'll say it's about a hundred times better than any other magical girl or card fighting anime that I've ever seen, that's like saying that a punch to the face is better than a kick to the nuts. You wouldn't willfully undergo either, unless you're some kind of masochist, and it's still a card fighting magical girl loli-con anime, and seriously? Fuck that shit.

I can get why you may hate it just from watching the first season. It does get a lot better after that, but really, if you didn't like it because of the magical crap stuff you're just not going to get it, Krylo.

I liked it.

Although admittedly, I usually like most of the magic heavy animes out there. But for whatever reason, this one stands out as a favourite of mine.

I also liked it's first movie, which might have been better then the first season. And from what I've heard about the second, it sounds pretty good too.

So yeah, it's one of the animes I actually like.

Well before we jump to conclusions, I'd suggest you click the link in my sig that has been there for over a year now.

I'm not opposed to the magical schoolgirl genre, I'm simply opposed to the fact that I've never seen one that wasn't terrible. Read one, once, though. I do mostly just hate loli-con for being loli-con, however.

The fact that Sakura contains next to no lolicon (unless you count the gorgeous attires Tomoyo has ready for Sakura, which show no skin at all) kind of counteracts that. All the lolicon that you may find about Sakura is pretty much fan-created and irrelevant to the series, since the focus is not on fan-service, but rather the characterisation.

And...

To be fair, though, you have to have watched a crapload of stuff like Sailor Moon for that story to be as interesting as it was, which I think was the point Krylo was trying to make.
