Artist?
I've decided I want to do something a little happier than what I normally write. So, I decided to take a break from everything, and try writing a comic. However, I suck at drawing, so I thought I'd ask if anyone here would be interested in doing art for the comic.
The plot is this. An oldish man, fifties or forties, goes on a quest to rescue his daughter, who has been kidnapped by an evil villain, because she can speak with the dead. The main character is optimistic at all times, and tries to avoid killing his foes if he can, though rescuing his daughter is more important. His weapon is a short staff/stick thing that he can control its function but not its form. For example, he can say its a sword, and it will work as a sword, but it will still look like a stick/staff/thing. A lot of the plot would focus on short story arcs as he makes his way to defeat the evil villain. Not exactly ground breaking, but I think I could do a good job of making it interesting.

I'm not particularly interested in drawing a comic, but that is a very interesting concept, the main character's ability/weapon.

Here is a very rough sketch of what page one would be like.
Panel 1: Two men sitting at a bar, drinking and joking with each other. Haven't come up with any specific dialogue for this part yet. Panel 2: Main character walks in and sits next to them, a red-painted stick hanging at his side like a sheethed sword. One of the men looking at the stick. Panel 3: Man #1 poking Man #2 and pointing at the stick, laughing. Panel 4: Man #2 "Hey old man, what's with the stick." Panel 5: Main Character "This is no stick. This is a mighty blade." Man #1 "Oh, really?" Panel 6: MC "Yes! Slayer of evil! Weapon of justice! The mighty sword..." Panel 7: MC holding pointing stick in the air. "Prometheus!" Very vague, and needs a lot of work I know, this is just a rough idea I threw together. Sounds silly, and I'll probably change the sword's name, but the silliness of it is kinda the point.

There's entirely too many comic writers and not enough comic artists around here.
Minner the Cat said he was interested in something I pitched at him, but I think he forgot. Lazy puss. Y.

Generally speaking, I'm of the opinion that at least 80% of folks who want to write webcomics should actually just be writing novels. They just are lazy and want the instant gratification of an artist drawing what they write, and people potentially commenting on and enjoying strips that only contain relatively small amounts of dialogue. A novel, by contrast, is much more work with much less immediate payoff.
There are definitely ideas out there that need to be done as webcomics, but your idea just screamed "write a novel, forget about the webcomic" to me. I'm not really sure why. I guess it's because, I envision that to be a truly great webcomic writer, you need to have at least some knowledge of the artistic style you want, the presentation you want, and you need to have a pretty solid argument as to why it'd really work in art form, as opposed to just writing it as a novel. Even though you're not the artist, it's your responsibility nonetheless to write the story in a way that really encourages it being a comic strip. I tried it once before and it didn't work out, precisely because I was essentially trying to reintrepret one of my novel ideas into webcomic form.

I kind of agree that your concept seems like it should be a novel as opposed to a comic. The main reason why is the main character's weapon. It does different things but still looks like a stick. So the artist is going to have to figure out how to make it look like it's doing funky things while still being a stick. And it will drive them crazy. The whole point of comics is that they are a visual medium, so having the main character's weapon look the same no matter what function it's carrying out seems counter-productive. And again, it's going to drive the artist crazy. I've drawn comics for writers before, and it's a short trip between things going wonderfully and a whole lot of cursing coming from the artist's end.

It would be a blur or something. If it's slashing or stuff like that just have the blur of motion and then show the result.

ok I hate to sound like a dick but I gotta be blunt. You wont get someone to do the art. Even if you do its unlikely they would be reliable enough to keep a regular update schedule. Trust me, this is from personal experience.

I didn't really think I would find someone, but thought it wouldn't hurt to see, so no worries...
