Soul Calibur IV thread - Tower mode can die in a fire.
Kilik sure is popular huh?
Blah blah blah we all know what SCIV is by now, but just in case you don't it's a 3D fighter with weapons and one of the few fighting games to be in "true" 3D imo. It's pretty cool, very newbie friendly and you should buy it if you like 3d fighters. Yes I really fucking hate Tower mode. Links!!!! 8WayRun, Calibur Forums v2, set up by Jaxel who is a big deal in the SC community apparently! Newbie silencer! SCU, a more casual SC community. Ever wanted to know how to test for frame advantage? Now you do. Post away! Last edited by mudah.swf; 08-12-2008 at 06:57 PM. |

Screw Kilik.
...Though I haven't played as nor against him yet since SC2. Gonna go on now to make The Prince of Persia. Up for a game if I see any of y'alls online! In fact, we should totally do a tournament of some kind. Some day. Which would be hard considering that we have players on both consoles, but it could work, right?

Finally bought this game today. I'm absurdly pleased.
I tried Kilik...was not a fan. Sieg and Mitsurugi were up there as my faves, maybe Maxi for speed. Yoda...I dunno. We'll see if he grows on me.

I'm not overly fond of the Star Wars characters. I thought it would be awesome, but the lightsabers and general combat just don't feel right. I feel like I'm controlling a guy with a glowing sword, not a Jedi with a lightsaber.
I'm probably just being negative because of my own disappointment with the game in general though.

I understand the disappointment in story mode; I don't necessarily agree because when I bought SC IV, I wasn't buying it for the story, but I can totally see where your coming from as I do enjoy what lore there is behind Soul Calibur. Even I thought the story mode per character was a little short but meh...more like classic arcade in my opinion, which is fine by me. Also, the way enemies are added in now is a VERY nice touch. Yay for not having the battle restart.
Going back to lore, there was that one Wii Soul Cal game. Not nearly as good as SC IV (the Wii thing was pretty mediocre) but it was story-oriented. Totally agree with the star wars character thing though; maybe it just takes time but right now I'm really not fond of Yoda.

I like Yoda! But probably only because I started with him and used him for about 2 hours straight.
Now it just feels really clunky when I try playing normal-sized beings. |

I have to admit that I played through Story mode with him on normal and hard yesterday and after doing that, there are certain things that are beneficial about him. One being that attacks like Sieg's regular A (think it was his regular A, anyway) go right over Yoda's head. Grabs also just miss him.
Still not a fan of him but I can say I could see why someone would use him. Personally I played Algol last night and found him to be fun.

So, I was fighting some guy, and he never blocked low, so I just spammed low attacks all fight long. Apparently Im cheap, but I mean, if you arent blocking low, EVER, are yopu really in a position to criticise otyhers?

Yeah, Yoda is completely immune to grabs as far as I know. It's a nice little touch, especially against the computer because the AI sure isn't aware of the fact. So they occasionally try to grab me, leaving them completely open to attack.
Also I'm pretty sure you've been called cheap twice Joshelplex, that's two out of three strikes buddy. The Internet never lies. |
