Have you ever played Princess Maker?

Well, it doesn't really matter because I'm going to explain it to you:

Basically the crazy people of Gainax decided to make a game wherein you're some kind of hero or rich person or something, depending on which game you're playing (there are five), and the gods gifted you with a ten year old girl. Don't worry, though! It's to raise her into the best woman possible! Not... other things... that you sick bastards are probably thinking about right now.

So I, being crazy and stupid, decided this could be an interesting basis for a forum RP/forum game. I'm sticking it here, because I plan to run it with the emphasis on RPing, with the game-y-ness only existing to keep it moving at a decent pace considering the eight year time frame.

Basically the story line is such (ripped off almost directly from PM2)--This demon army attacked the city, and a small group of heroes fought them off and defeated the demon lord. The king figured, hey, that's pretty cool, so he set you all up in some pimpin' pads and pays you all about five hundred smackaroos a year just to sit around, because he's cool like that. Well a few years pass and at various dates you each receive a child from the heavens.

Now you get to raise them, don't worry though, you don't all have to raise daughters. That'd be sexist.

Character sheets will be as such:

Now in the games your birth date decided your patron deity who gave your daughter some bonuses and drawbacks. However, because I am lazy and could not find any information on what effects signs have on your child, I'm skipping that and the blood type part. If someone can find a list of what each patron deity alters for beginning stats, that'd be great, and I would incorporate them into the game. Instead I am going to be a total jackass and just randomly decide some things, but don't worry, I'll tell you about them, maybe! Probably in PM, perhaps! At least some of them! Things will include stat bonuses and reductions, and may include other stuff as well.


Now once you've got your child, s/he's got a whole lots of stats and figures and blah blah blah. I'll post a .txt. It's nothing you have to be too overly concerned about to be honest. Anyway, your child starts at ten years old and the game, ideally, goes until he or she is eighteen years old. Each month you get to choose three things for her to do. One thing for the first third of the month, one thing for the second, and one thing for the third.

This part is going to be kinda forum game-ish. Basically you have one week maximum to decide what your child will do during that week. Once you decide, PM me with it. You may also make an RP post if you want, of you working out the schedule with your daughter. This isn't necessary, but hey, have fun with it. If everyone gets back to me sooner, we can progress faster. If anyone doesn't, their child will be assumed to be sloughing off around town all month. No big deal.

Now once everyone has decided what their child is going to be doing, I'll send them PMs back or make RP posts explaining what has happened during that time to their children. Possibilities include being challenged to a duel, being attacked by monsters, whatever! Fun stuff! You then get to make an RP post, or a series of them, detailing your adventures! You get one week maximum for this as well.

The one week maximums are so we can keep the game moving. These may be malleable. For instance if a number of children (maybe all of them!) get together to go adventuring, I may run a longer series of posts detailing far greater the exploits and daring do dads (or do bads) of your precocious little scamps. Kind of like a miniature adventure RP within the greater child rearing one. If only a couple of children go on an adventure or they all go alone, there will be a PM from me to the player, detailing the things the child runs into in the forest, and (according to her stats) how he or she fares. The player then makes an RP post of this.

This is all going to have to run on a delicate balance of keeping the game moving and providing enough opportunity for RP. As I have never done anything quite like this before, and, to the best of my knowledge, neither has anyone else, much of this is subject to change. If this leans too much toward forum game and not enough toward RP, expect things to change to force more roleplaying. If it starts stalling, expect time constraints to become tighter on decisions.

The text document that I attach will also have the various things you can have your child do every month, along with its advantages and disadvantages, as well as any rules not stated here.

Oh, and the .txt is much easier to read with word wrap off, unfortunately. I'm not good at formatting. If someone wants to make a better formatted version, I'll upload that instead. I threw this all together in a few hours, though, so excuse any glaring terribleness.

Urak: You aren't... really her father anyway. The kid's given to you by a god/goddess to protect and raise.

The only way that would work out would be if the 'hero' character got a daughter from the gods and promptly ditched her with some random family member, which I assume would miff off said gods, so I'm gonna say no. I'm not sure why you'd want to be, anyway.

EDIT: Also, expressing some interest in a Swordsman father who is given a Mage son and wonders where he went wrong.

EDIT MOAR: Urak, you don't really seem to 'get' the whole thing. You're not the girl's father. There's no blood relation. God/Bunch of Gods/Flying Spaghetti Monster dropped a little human girl at your doorstep and it's your job to take care of her. So you're her caretaker. If it makes you feel better you're a Babysitter, Mentor, ATM, and Data Entry boy.

@Urak: Sooo... you don't want to be the actual parent?

I'll meet you half way. You can write up a 'tutor' as well as a parent, and have said tutor do most of the raising, so long as you also post with the parent.

Speaking of--you guys can feel free to add whatever servants your character might have. Butler, extra tutor, whatever. They only need a bio if they'll be doing a majority of the child rearing, and they won't actually change anything about game play, but there ya go.

Oh, also, I forgot to mention--in cases where a child/parent have something to deal with and it's not finished by the end of the 'roleplaying' week time, I'll finish it up myself before making the next post about the changing month. I'll be relatively vague about specifics, so as to avoid controlling your kids too much, but if it's necessary to keep things moving, it's necessary to keep things moving.

AND, I don't think I mentioned morality/sin. Think of these as alignment sliders, and play your child accordingly. I don't want to see a high morality whore, a low morality chaste angel, a high sin bleeding heart, or a low sin ruthless killer. Likewise low morality children (excepting perhaps having a very good relationship with their parents) should be more 'troublesome' in controlling them.

I'm leaving this mostly in your hands, but if I see too many extreme contradictions from how a child should be acting, I'll mention it, and it may eventually result in me playing your child while you simply play the parent (as it was in the original game).

It's just no fun having all these nifty little sliders for your daughter's personality if we don't use them, right?
