Gaging Interest: Chat room D&D
I have had a monster-itch to play D&D again. Some of the most fun I had on the internet was playing a capaign with a couple buddies from another forum, one being OctoberRaven on here.
It's been about 3-4 years since I've had the chance to play, and I'd like to try to get a game up and running. We'd meet in an mIRC chatroom once a week, use a dice-roller program that is hella efficient, and play some 3.5, because those are the book sets I have. I'm no good at being a DM, so we'd need one of those, and we'd have to get interest and find a day everyone could get together. However, right now I'm just seeing if there'd be enough people interested to get a game going. So, any takers? I really do mean I've been starving to play some ChatD&D again, I've just reread all 600+ strips of Order of the Stick just to hold it off some.

Well, apparently interest is low, but I'd play if someone would DM. I'd offer to DM, actually, but I'm already doing a RL campaign.

Yeah, no kidding.
As much as I'd love too, I don't think it'd be a great game with just me and you, 'Gent! Let's see if we can't get a couple more people to commit.

Since moving to Scotland I haven't been able to play.
I'm normally DM and could do it but I've never played online before so I don't know how different it wouldbe. |

It's actually not that much different. You just have to be much more rules knowledgeable if you want the game to move smoothly, and planning becomes easier as the games tend to move MUCH slower then RL games.
Also, there is a SMALL problem with people disapearing randomly during these without reason in my experiance. ((My attempt at explaining things.)) |

We've used mIRC to great effect before, including a Dicebot program build by one of our players that made things incredibly convenient. Everything was rolled in room with a simple text command, including rolling up multiple sets of stat rolls in seconds.
People can PM the DM for questions, checks, and whatnot, so that is very handy. The only real troubles are: 1) Finding times when everyone can get together 2) The physical layout/terrain The second one simply means the DM will have to write in a lot of flat terrain and very little structures in rooms, or be prepared to say "you can't do that, because of so-and-so" a lot.

There's also a program called Maptool that does the same thing, and adds support for a map and movable tokens. I've used it before as a player and it worked very well. I don't know about the DM's end.

Ape, I sent you a message. This sounds awesome. It's been quite a while since I've been able to play D&D myself. Would by my first time partaking in an online chat session, but am totally open to the idea. As is a buddy of mine.

Sweet! We're starting to get some people interested, so this may have legs.
What sort of days/times are people available?
