Marvel at the wonders of Teenage creativity! Back in the day where some game magazines were our better venue to learn about the mystic world of videogames, and as such, allowed the many many lies that would surround our beloved games for years to come!

* You could get a key to use on Link's stage that unlocked the cage on that level. Sonic the Hedgehog would come out.
* After beating the game on very hard with only three lives without restarting, you would attain the character Goku.
* After beating the game on very hard with one life and never restarting, you would unlock bug-eyed versions of Link and Yoshi.
* Rotate the control stick 30 times when selecting Luigi and Master Hand would be playable.
* You can play as Charmander by using an unlicensed cheat device such as Game Shark.
* Using a device that would supposedly be coming out soon, you could play as many more characters including Bowser.
* Wario can be unlocked by beating the game in less than 5 minutes.
* Pikachu and Jigglypuff can evolve into Raichu and Wigglytuff and be playable by pressing the C buttons in a certain order while at the main screen.
* By performing a "sparkle kill" on silph co so that the sparkle lines up on the Poke ball you get Gyarados.

This is from the Videogame Lies Wiki where they are putting together the most well known lies about several games... i actually remember hearing about several of these back in the day and wondering if it was actually real...

So, do you recall any lies about videogames that caught your attention?

You're right it doesn't.

But I did it on the N64.

It required bogus cheats I looked up online and served no purpose.

On another note, I suppose that Sonic and Tails in Super Smash Bros Melee counts. The thing was that you had to kill 20 enemies in cruel melee or something.

I'm trying, but I can't remember too much bogus being made about new video games. Maybe I'm just not in the right circles, or maybe the internet has ruins some of the mystery behind games for everyone.

Im pretty sure the Internet has ruined some of everything for everyone...

But also, i recall this "Lie" where it's said that in Street Fighter II you could do a really hard trick with Guile and he would pull out a Gun and kill the other character...

And Shen Long of course...

I know a big one back in the day was the supposed Ultimate Limit Break for Cloud, the Cherry Blossom. Usually accompanied by the claim you could find a gunblade for him to equip, but that was after FFVIII came out and everybody thought gunblades were the shiznat. Also lots of bring Aeris back to life ones, but those were easy to ignore, along with bring General Leo back to life in FFVI, etc.

I think Caves of Narshe has a better list of all the FF6 lies, though. Hopefully the compile the FF7 ones eventually.
